There's a cat in my garden staring at me

It runs away if I open the door but five minutes after I go inside it's in the garden staring at me. Have I been chosen?

I too think you now belong to her OP, give in, resistance is futile.

LizB62A · 23/01/2020 14:07

Take it to a vet and get it checked for a chip.

LizB62A · 23/01/2020 14:08

And don't feed it unless it's starving - some cats need specialised diets so best not to feed unless it really is a stray

Beamur · 23/01/2020 14:15

Don't feed it. It's not a stray, just a chancer.
Unless it's looking thin or out of condition, leave it alone. It probably lives nearby and is looking for a soft touch for extra snacks or a place to snooze.
Perfectly acceptable to offer a fuss though.

GetawayfromthatWelshtart · 23/01/2020 14:34

Don't feed it and DON'T take it to the vet ffs.

Cats wander a LOT and it's liable to be someones pet who just happens to like your garden and DD. Give it cuddles and strokes if it lets you! Some cats are natural born tarts Grin

There's a thread about how bloody annoying it is for people to assume all cats that wander into their gardens are strays and ppl cat napping them.

Unless it is visibly injured or ill then it's doing what cats normally do, having a wonder and a stroke with random strangers looking for extra cheeky noms.

imaflutteringkite · 23/01/2020 15:50

Don't worry, I'm not feeding it or taking it to a vet, it looks like it gets plenty of food!

Well I didn't know about the femaleness of tortoise shell cats anyway she is eyeing you up for slavery !

GetawayfromthatWelshtart · 23/01/2020 16:16

You wait until the warmer months..it'll get closer and closer like a furry cat chess piece until you're in the kitchen with the back door open to let in a breeze and turn around and it's looking at you from the work top... Grin

imaflutteringkite · 23/01/2020 16:25

I don't think it will be able to use us as slaves, not inside anyway. We've got a dog that loves cats but this cat is scared to death of him.

OP posts:
Mrsjayy · 23/01/2020 16:28

It has already enticed the small hoomin you wait Grin

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 23/01/2020 16:35

just chat and introduce yourself...cat like to know things...tell her she can visit and that the dog is a good boy so she is not to be bad to him if she decides to visit long term! :o

I used to help out at a CPL....there was a cat there with lots of kittens and apparently she was vicious feisty with all the other volunteers, but she had been (and continued to be during her stay) so sweet and friendly to me, I had cooed over all her kittens and told her how clever she was, she sat on my lap and held me up one day, and was just such a pretty little dolly of a cat and I swear it's because I chattered to her!

LizB62A · 23/01/2020 17:48

DON'T take it to the vet ffs.

Just to get checked for a chip, not to leave it there FFS

JKScot4 · 23/01/2020 17:56

At most put a paper collar on with your number and Please call if this is your cat. No need for catnapping yet, cats do roam but half the population assume any cat is a stray!

slipperywhensparticus · 23/01/2020 17:58

Is she fat? She could be pregnant and needing a safe space

MitziK · 23/01/2020 18:28

This is the beginning of a horror film. Give it a week and you'll look up to find it sat just inside your bathroom door watching you pee

That's not a horror film. That's every morning at 5.47am. Which is, admittedly, rather horrific for people that would rather sleep in til 10, but despite pointing out to them that I don't share in their litter box adventures, the resident DTwatCats are having none of it and it's an essential early morning bonding session before I abandon them for work.

MitziK · 23/01/2020 18:30

But you could put some kind of shelter out there, just in case she's thinking proactively of her kittens' futures, what with getting the small human onside so quickly...

FAQs · 23/01/2020 18:36

Very unnerving how she is staring at you!

Mumof1andacat · 23/01/2020 18:52

You have done something and this cat disapproves. Therefore he or she has come to stare at you

Beamur · 23/01/2020 19:39

Mitzic
One of my cats seeks me out in the bathroom. It's when she's most pleased to see me Confused

imaflutteringkite · 23/01/2020 19:41

I think she disapproves of the dog using the garden that she's now claimed!

My cat does this to all our neighbours and now he is grotesquely overweight, to the extent that he now has to be fat shamed made to wear a 'do not feed me' collar.

Mrsjayy · 24/01/2020 15:19

When I had a cat she used to go to my neighbours for Chicken or roast beef every. Sunday Shock cat must have been smelling it cooking or something
