Has anyone done an aquarium shark dive?

DS2 will be having his 10th birthday soon. We seem to have entered into a family tradition where big birthdays (in this case hitting double figures) are marked with an experience/adventure rather than a gift. DS1 went in a Lamborghini for his 10th birthday. DS2 want to go diving with sharks or prettyfish really it doesnt have to be sharks. I have found a few aquarium based dives he could do but wondered if anyone had actually done any and are they worth the money?

DH and I did on in NZ. It was really fun! They gave us a basket of food each, and we could swim around handfeeding the rays and the sharks (although the sharks weren't really interested).

It was whilst the aquarium was open, so people were watching and pointing at us, which was funny (I'm not usually an exhibitionist!)

I think your DS would really enjoy it! Can he scuba dive already? He'll want to be able to get around under his own steam without worrying too much about how, so would recommend he's done at least the first part of a PADI course first. He won't need to worry about buoyancy control, and it's very safe being only a few metres under water, so the first couple of days of PADI would be sufficient.

@Nordicwannabe that sounds like n amazing experience, he hasn't done any formal scuba training but one of the instructors at his lifeguard training is a scuba diver so has taught them to swim up and down the bottom of the pool in all the scuba stuff.

I did it at London aquarium.
You get a days entrance and behind the scenes tour inc. it's in a separate tank away from the public with about 13-15 sharks in it. You don't actually swim with them you step down into a cage with a snorkel on, so you just have to be tall enough to touch the bottom of the cage and your snorkel to reach clear. You can pay extra for friends and family to watch, up to 4bcan dive at a time. I absolutely loved it.
