What did you do after your psychology degree?

It's been interesting reading where an English Literature degree took people.

So I'm wondering what happened to those of us with a psychology degree. Apparently it's one of the degrees with the lowest earning potential/ perceived transferable skills.

I taught for a couple of years aged then trained as an educational psychologist. I love my job. It's interesting, flexible and well paid. Now I run a small independent practice, so I guess it worked out well. Others on my degree course went into academia, teaching, social work, corporate graduate schemes and a couple more are applied psychologists.

Where has it taken you?

@Caramel78 you did really well, did you do it part time or full time? If you enjoyed it, it's not a waste. What sort of job did you want to get?

@icecreamsundae32 I did it full time. I enjoyed the first half of it but found the final 3 modules incredibly tedious as they were very statistic based and sciencey and I found them very difficult and not my cup of tea. My own fault for not researching beforehand properly what they would be like.

@Caramel78, you have to make your psych degree work for you, be proactive. If you can’t afford postgrad, try volunteering in areas that you would like to work in related to your degree.
There are charities/ foundations to support women in HE- a friend got a masters funded. PhD studentships are bursaried.
Don’t expect to get a good related job because you have a degree. More people than ever have degrees now, and psychology is a very popular one.
Apologies if you’re doing this already but you can’t afford to be passive about it.
