My 4month old daughter has one inverted nipples with a lump behind it

Just that really. She is 4 months and breastfed for the first month. I noticed it a week ago and the one nipple is fine but the inverted one has a lump behind it, no change in the week and it’s not causing her any pain, I will go the the dr but I was wondering if this was normal and should I worry or be doing anything? Thank you

I'm not sure why you are asking a week after you found this - at least ask a health visitor or make an appointment for crying out loud

This happened to the baby of a friend of mine. It turned out to be nothing but just get it checked out for your peace of mind.

Bore off will you. My boys had the same but without the inverted nipple so I realise it’s relatively normal but I’ve never experienced the inverted nipple, I will take her to the dr but The appointment was a weeks wait, she’s going on Friday and my HV is about as useful as a chocolate teapot. I was wondering if anyone else had an experience whilst I waited for the appointment

That's ok, my friend was very worried for a few days too.

vincettenoir · 20/01/2020 19:38

At NCT class they told us that baby girls having lumpy nipples was a fairly normal occurrence. I think it’s something to do with hormones and some baby girls even pass some period blood. I don’t think this sounds alarming but just worth mentioning to a HV or dr as you plan to do.

I can remember, especially in one of my sons’ he had little boobs, but he was younger and didn’t have the inverted nipple thing. I’m sure it will be fine but I was just wondering how common it was because I was expecting it to go away on it’s own within the week or at least go down a bit but there has been no change. No redness or pain or anything like that.

@vincettenoir thank you, she’s my first girl so subtle differences like this to my boys I thought I would be dealing with in years to come not so soon!

My dd had an inverted nipple and it also had a lump behind it, I noticed this before I came home and the midwife said it's temporary and nothing to worry about and sure enough it's fine now.

@WestCountryLady thank you ❤️

I've had 5 girls and at least three of them had this in the first few months.
Mention it but I wouldn't worry ❤️

Shookethtothecore · 20/01/2020 19:54

Thank you @shuuush that’s pretty much what I wanted to hear. I was planning on mentioning it and not worrying but just had a quick wobble and worry but I think my instincts are right. Thank you

I've come across this a lot - every time it's been leftover hormone related! Obviously get it checked for piece of mind more than anything but it's usually the case

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 20/01/2020 21:39

We took DD to gp with this when she was about 1 year. They said it was just breast buds below the nipple and not to worry about.

Shookethtothecore · 20/01/2020 22:21

Thanks both
