Loose/broken dental crown...anxiety!

Hi, just wondering if a home might be able to provide any reassurance as I'm getting myself too worked up about this (damn anxiety Sad).

I dislodged a crown that's been in place for about 10 years a couple of weeks ago, whilst I was flossing my teeth). I assumed I'd be able to just get it cemented back on.

An appointment with the emergency dentist revealed she thought I had an infection starting. She tried to cement it back on but said at the time she wasn't hopeful of it staying put. She started talking about having it out, bridges, implants etc.

Just over a week since then and it's still hanging on but getting looser every day. I've got an appt with my proper dentist to discuss options for it.

I'm petrified! Petrified that it's going to leave a gap (it's fairly near the front) in either the short term or long term. I don't have fear of the dentist visits or even the treatment...just being left with a gap even for a short time.

Please tell me it's not a done deal I'm going to be a toothless old hag?!

Hmm, my crown fell out a before Christmas, together with the very short post. The tooth itself was down to the gum, more or less (broke it when I was a kid). Right at the front of my mouth. And there wasn't much to the crown either - tiny little post, little blob of ceramic. I felt quite sorry for it and my gap-toothed mouth!

There's no way I thought they could put it back in, but they did and it's been fine. Fingers crossed, now I've said that!

@lemontreebird thank you! My tooth is down to the gum too underneath.

I shall try and have a medicinal large glass of wine and try not to obsess about it until tomorrow Confused

No worries. Good luck tomorrow.

How did it go, @MincePiesGetInMyBelly?

@lemontreebird - thanks for checking in with me.

Unfortunately I am going to lose the tooth. Pretty gutted to be honest. I'm going for an implant as this will give the best long term outcome even though it's £££ outlay.

A long process though - 6 to 9 months. They'll give me a falsie in the interim though.

When I had my crown replaced last year, I had a temporary one until the new one was made, so I never had a gap. The dentist made the temporary one during the appointment when he removed the old crown.

My DH did the same thing flossing. It got looser and looser over the course of a week, then one morning the crown was gone. He must have swallowed it in the night.

It was right at the back though, so didn't show at all.

Oh that's a shame, @MincePiesGetInMyBelly.

Did the dentist say why it will take so long?
