Is it normal practise for an employer to take copies of docs used for a DBS check?

I've been offered a second job in school's kitchen which requires another DBS check.

I already have one for school, and one for Girlguiding, neither of whom took copies of my docs. In fact, the GG one, the verifier left the room while I filled in my part of the form on the computer.

I just wondered if it's normal for them to take copies of your personal documents?

Yes. For their files if it's a local council.

It's a private company in an academy kitchen.

So long as it's usual for them to do it then that's fine. It just threw me a bit since neither of my most recent ones copied anything & just took note of the certificate number.

I would double check that Joe they are holding them as its your personal data

You don't need to keep copies of ID checked for DBS, the declaration on the form that ID has been seen enough. They can keep records of what they have seen but keeping copies crosses over in GDPR legislation.

*how they are storing the copies
