Help! My tongue is pushing my teeth out at night!

Since having my baby I noticed that I am pushing my teeth with my tongue. I only do this at night. I wake up with a weird sensation in my front teeth. I also started to clench / grind my teeth. It took me a while to figure out that my tongue was pushing my teeth. In the morning my tongue feels like it's had a workout and I feel really tense in my neck and shoulders. I don't wake up feeling refreshed at all.

I have now noticed that my teeth have been pushed forward and I have an open bite. I wear a mouth guard but that doesn't stop me from my tongue pushing. What can I do to stop this. I'm really worried my teeth will protrude even more. I also want to stop to improve my quality of sleep.

I'm so worried. Anyone have any experience with this?

I grind my teeth, in fact so much I cracked one in half and had to have it removed.
I had to get a ‘ fixed splint’ made, which is a mouth guard made of hard plastic

Will this device stop tongue pushing? I find the tongue pushing more of a problem than the teeth grinding because it's moving my teeth forward.

I had similar when I was suffering a serious bout of anxiety. Not my tongue but in my sleep I would jut my jaw forward, clamp down and then pull my teeth backwards Shock It was horrible, and I couldn't stop it, I'd be aware of it but it was almost like sleep paralysis and my jaw would hurt like hell the next day.

Not much help to you I know Confused Once the thing causing my anxiety stopped, I haven't done it since. You must be pushing with some force to move your teeth with your tongue!!

I am! Apparently the tongue is a very strong muscle! My stress trigger is my baby! This all started when he was born and now he's already 2!

I think I have corrrwxr tongue posture during the day. I know your tongue is pulled back when chewing etc. It seems to be at night. I tense my tongue and my jaw and neck and shoulders and push out really hard. It's a subconscious thing. I don't know how to stop it.

I've bought myself some magnesium as I think that helps to relax muscles?! Hoping this might help.

I’ve managed to grind a lot of enamel from the back of my teeth at night. Now I’ve chipped my front tooth a bit.

I take a magnesium tablet about an hour before bed and my jaws are not so sore in the morning.

I’m not sure if the fixed splint would work for you. It’s similar to dentures in material so may alleviate the pressure your tongue exerts on your teeth?
I was lucky that my dentist referred me to a specialist in grinding/ clenching.
If you’re near Cardiff I can send details

I've had issues with tooth grinding and jaw clenching since I was 10 years old, and I'm now in my 30s!!!

Been to see an osteopath and a jaw specialist in a dental hospital.

Got exercises to do, and have had a bite guard since my early 20s. Doesn't help my fucked up jaw muscles, but has prevented the enamel being chipped off my teeth.

Despite all this I have good strong teeth and the dentist is happy with my teeth.

I'm noticing that my overbite is getting worse, and that the tight jaw muscles are impacting how I speak. Quite worried about that.

Jaw specialist at dental hospital offered to break and re-set my jaw for aesthetic reasons (absolute cheeky bastard!!) but said it carried risks of making jaw pain worse. So I declined!!

Never heard of anyone pushing their teeth forward with their tongue, OP. I suppose the fact you are aware you're doing it might help as you maybe will be able to retrain yourself to stop.
