What to do with expensive item of jewellery that exh gave me?

I have an Elsa Peretti open heart necklace

The one in the picture attached

It was given to me by my abusive exh and I therefore don’t wear it

What’s the best thing to do with it?

It was £645 new but won’t be worth hardly anything second hand on eBay or the like

Should I just list it and be glad to have got rid?

Get yourself on a jewellery making taster course and melt it down.

Blasting something with a blowtorch is very therapeutic. I did this with a silver piece that I had made for a relative with her other half’s name on it (in the meantime he did the dirty when she was pregnant and left her). She was most amused that ‘he’ was now part of another piece I made.

Donate it to a charity for a raffle prize?

Definitely have it melted down and redesigned into something you love. A good jeweller will be able to point you in the right direction.

Take it to a pawnbrokers imo, eBay is too risky as a seller now, especially for high value items.

If you have certification to show that it is genuine Tiffany, then i would try selling it via an auction.

If not, go and speak to a working jeweller and see if they can make something more positive from it.

I’m not a good jeweller - but if you are in London, Hatton garden has a gazillion jewellery studios who could oblige!

BikeRunSki · 19/01/2020 20:11

If you’re anywhere near Huddersfield, I can recommend you a jeweller. He made a custom charm for me and remodelled my friend’s engagement and wedding rings into a necklace after she got divorced.

NemophilistRebel · 20/01/2020 10:46

Thanks for all the suggestions

I definitely don’t want it made into anything else

At the end of the day it will still be that item he gave me

I’m actually quite happy if I got £60 for it so I put it on eBay last night and will see what happens.
A jewellery reseller on eBay offered me £40 no less than 5 minutes after it was listed so figure he could see it would be a bargain.

@NemophilistRebel Please don't sell it for £40!

Even a jeweller will give you more for it than that! Here is an secondhand dealer that sells Tiffany: www.richdiamonds.com/product-category/branded-jewellery/tiffany-co

They sell for approx 2/3 RRP. Obviously they buy for a lot less than they sell but not £40! You should be able to get several hundred pounds for it.
