Should I worry about this? He's my first so I might be panicking. We were Co sleeping and I woke up to him crying and covered in blood, tidied him up n its stopped now but he's very hot. He's had calpol.
He's refusing food except sweet stuff and was yesterday. Nappies are normal.
Sorry if I'm panicking but it's never happened before

Call 111 or your out of hours. It's never happened to one of mine. They won't mind you calling

Sooverthemill · 19/01/2020 07:18

Do you have a thermometer? He may have a virus

Oggden1 · 19/01/2020 07:24

Yeah temp is 38 or 39 so it's higher than it should be but not fever high according to NHS website.

Have you understood your thermometer correctly? 38 or 39 is a fever: www.nhs.uk/conditions/fever-in-children/

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 19/01/2020 07:38

NHS website a fever is a temperature of 38 or above.

I say given the age, he needs to be seen.

Sometimes with children if they have a week capillary when they are hot it can burst and cause nose bleeds. This can occur in the summer months as well.

But given that they are only 18 months old, I would insist on being seen by a GP.

Oggden1 · 19/01/2020 07:49

Okay thanks so I'm. Not panicking. I. Took his temp twice once was 38 and second 39 as under arm themomator a digital one.
I'll call and see if he can see someone just to. Reassure me

He's wriggly so I took it twice, hence two readings. Is what I meant.

My little boy always gets nosebleeds, often when hes unwell (runny nose, more wriggly etc.). I always panic about them because it looks like the Shining when you wake up but hes never bothered. I was ready for blue lighting him the first time it happened lol but thankfully his dad has suffered from nosebleeds and said it was totally normal. It always looks more than it is.

Sooverthemill · 19/01/2020 08:14

Nosebleeds are common but NHS says child under 2 should see GP. Out of hours.

FainaSnowChild · 19/01/2020 09:27

My son (much older than yours) had a fluey illness just before Christmas that bizarrely included having 3 huge nosebleeds. Never had one before.

greathat · 19/01/2020 09:28

Under arm thermometers are not very reliable at some point get one of the ear ones

Dontstepinthecowpat · 19/01/2020 09:28

My DS always has nosebleeds when he’s hot temperature or in a warm environment. He’s 12 now and we have never been able to avoid them.

Oggden1 · 19/01/2020 15:43

Thanks everyone. His fever has almost gone and he's eating but sweet stuff only. His nappies are normal and his drinking.
So all seems okay.
Only out of hours round here is A&E so I'm seeing doctor monday morning with him if he hasn't perked up

OP posts:
DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 19/01/2020 19:09

So you're just assuming it's because he had a temperature?
And if he perks up, you're not going?
Even though you described it as a 'massive nose bleed'?

Oggden1 · 19/01/2020 20:41

That's what the advice was as it stopped. Hadn't reoccurred and he seems well.
I'm keeping an eye on him and he's Co sleeping with me tonight

OP posts:
Oggden1 · 19/01/2020 20:46

I've not didcibed it as a massive nose bleed. It was a nose bleed presenting with raised temp.
The medical advice was its OK n keep eye on him, take him Dr Monday as no ooh cover.

I mean it was literally in your title. Massive nose bleed.
