Cat has been attacked, advice please

My 17month old huge male cat was missing last night, very unusual for him so went looking and calling to no avail. He was home this morning in an awful state - clumps taken out of him (hair) scratch or bite marks and a weeping eye.
I spent an hour with him and he didn't seem too bad, but I HAD to go to work.
He seems worse this evening and is so lethargic. I will take him to the vet tomorrow, but he won't let me handle him - I'm asking to anybody in the know how to get him there without making his injuries worse or distressing him further.

Any tips from those who have been in a similar situation welcome please!

@cheesemongery my scrapper was white too! Could always tell when he’s been under cars by the streaks of black oil/grease on him!

Thanks @HairyDogsOfThigh

He wolfed down food this morning when I got up - almost like he could only eat whilst i was there. He had a few bites when home from work and some water. He got up again once tonight for a nibble.

I'll have to wait until the morning.

I'm going to log off now and just chill with him (sleep on sofa opposite him)

I'll update you all in the morning. Thank you.

Poor little thing, hope he's ok.

cheesemongery · 19/01/2020 00:13

Haha @CatFaceCats - long haired white male cats - all about the engine oil! His hair would mat too and no way you were getting near him to detangle!!

Night all, update tomorrow, thank you for the messages.

Infact, I’m cat sitting for a neighbour just now, and their beautiful boy (tank!) has clearly been under a car!

Cheese, how is he this morning?

Catface, beautiful cat, but he doesn't look happy that you've posted him on MN for people to mock his oil stains Grin

We wash our cat wounds with cooked boiled water, and repeat as necessary

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 19/01/2020 14:41

How's your car now @cheesemongery? I hope you managed to get to the vet or he's perked up today.

cheesemongery · 20/01/2020 00:58

Haha @ Tank and his name suits so well!

Morning all, sorry for not updating sooner - we went to the vets first thing, he's had an antibiotic and we have some metacam, vet couldn't find anything major although says he's clearly been through the wars. I cleaned his eyes on the Sat night with cooled boiled water (that went down well!) He has perked up loads - already back to growling at his sister. My sleeping patterns are all over the place now. I've just got up and he's blummin out again!!

He also looks a lot better now he's groomed himself and all the clumps and tufts are gone. Oh and he's chugging food!

Re-instating the insurance first thing...

Thanks all.

Ahh that's great news Flowers

Dizzygirl00 · 20/01/2020 06:04

Gladl to hear he’s ok 😊 🐈

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 20/01/2020 08:56

Good-oh.

Damntheman · 20/01/2020 10:38

Bit late to help now I'm afraid OP! But for future reference I'd be not too worried if your cat is splayed out. Cats don't tend to do that when they're hurting, they'll curl up small. My bigger cat is a scrapper and I can always tell when he's hurt because he'll curl up small and won't be cuddly and won't eat.

He's currently wearing the Cone of Shame due to an infected rat bite causing an abcess in his chin so I feel you on the scrappy cat agony. Glad your boy is doing okay!

cheesemongery · 29/01/2020 02:19

Never too late @Damntheman - as it's happened again! Not to the same extent but we clearly have a new bully on the block. I've tried keeping him in with a litter tray at night only to have yowling all night - he's currently splayed so I guess that's a good sign.
