I'm heading into a tough year. I will be getting divorced, trying to buy stbx out of our house, and agreeing contact arrangements for the children. He's a very negative, controlling person and isn't afraid to use the children to hurt me, in quite subtle ways. I'm feeling better mentally than I have for years, but I know it's going to be a battle.

I have a bit of a plan in place to try and keep my mood up and motivation going, but have a tendency to read and watch serious stuff.

So, any recommendations? I'm happy for them to be factual or fiction, but am interested in books especially that are factual.

I know I can do it, but I also know it's going to an uphill battle I'll be slogging away at alone.

Re the books, I mean the "triumph against adversity " type. Hopefully will put my problems into perspective.

It's very sad, but I love the film "Life is Beautiful". Also, it's ages since I've watched it, but I always found "Shawshank Redemption" very uplifting.

I'm also interested in the suggestions from others on this thread.

Also, for books, how about Viktor Frankl's “Man's search for meaning". He was a holocaust survivor, so the ultimate triumph over adversity, I guess.

Another favourite film is "The Pursuit of Happyness". I can watch it over and over. It's based on a true story as well.

Bit more lighthearted, but Groundhog Day is also quite an uplifting one to watch.

Thanks Alexa I have seen grounding day but not for a while, not seen the others though. I'm happy to try any suggestions.

@JulietteLeGall sorry you're going through it too! I'm dreading it tbh, I'm going to have to force it along the whole way, with it being made much harder than it need be.

I'm listening to Michelle Obama's Becoming which I'm enjoying
