So lucky found safe and well .This is the nightmare about School Trips though isnt it? Services are very crowded busy places, and for the Teacher to keep an eye out for everyone is almost impossible . I think this will be another re run of safety procedures on trips ,form filling and risk assessments !

I posted a couple of weeks ago about being concerned about letting my dd go away on a week long group trip on grounds of safety and was told I was ‘ridiculous’. It just shows how real it really is!

It's not really a huge risk if you think about it. If this sort of thing happened often then it wouldn't have made the news. It's because it's so unusual it made big news.

If you're worried then talk to your child about what to do if you get separated from the school. Stand still. Don't leave the building, that sort of thing. I suspect (from knowing my ds) he probably thought something along the lines of "I don't know how to get back to the coach, what should I do? I know I'll walk home."

StealthPolarBear · 18/01/2020 18:21

True. Very true. I'm usually quite laid back about allowing my dcs' freedom, both have gone to toilets in shops and restaurants alone from about six (I think, can't really remember) and 12 yo ds has spent all day today out on his scooter. But there's something specifically about service stations, so busy, everyone coming and going far away. It wasn't so much the school trip element, it was that aspect of it that scares me.

Shocking lack of care from the school. Surely first rule of thumb for teachers is a head count before they leave anywhere?! Thank god he was found safe, poor little boy.

Oh right maybe I misread, thought they'd left without him! Guess he wandered off while they were all still there? Still, doesn't look great for whoever was in charge of the children.
