Baby Box Help

I've recently found out that my sister is having a baby and as a doting aunt and someone who has worked with babies professionally for 15 years I'm delighted! My sister and I aren't close and she lives remotely so I probably wont see much of the baby but that doesnt stop me wanting to support them however I can.

I was thinking that I would like to send them a developmental box every 3 months to help in the first year. As they're rural, low on cash and dont have much local support or know much about babies (but who does! Even as professional every baby is a surprise, delight and mystery!)

So my thoughts were to do a 0-3 3-6 6-9 9-12 box

Eg
0-3 : Gifts to be a nice book, a blanket and a soft toy. But also an emergency packet of nappies/wipes, dummy incase they lose theirs, decide not to have 1 but suddenly wish at 3am one night that they could try it. Muslins.
3-6 : Sophie giraffe, car seat toy, drool bibs, bath toy
6-9 : A good weaning book I've used, some weaning pots , stacking cups,
9-12 : Squeaking eggs, portable high chair,

So what were your god sends at these ages?

It’s quite expensive but the morrck blanket is very useful.

That’s the name brand, I’m sure there are non name brand versions out there. It’s a blanket with holes that sits round the car seatbelts. Even if it’s not cold it keeps the occasional exploding poo off the car seat.
Also some really huge muslins. Aden and anis is the brand, but txmaxx have a version that’s similar.
Some yellow metanium for when the nappy rash kicks in at 3am.

It’s a lovely idea OP.

Its a nice idea, but what you include really depends on the family.

Im also expecting baby this spring, having also worked with babies professionally for many years. Most things from your list I have never used so its really down to each person.

For me personally:
0-3 months - pack of reusable cheeky wipes, lindt dark chocolate for me, a nice hand knitted cardigan in neutral colour
3-6 months - soft baby book, natural teether,
6-9 months - pram book, pair of soft dungarees, wooden toy
9-12 months - soft leather baby booties - ie inch blue, hard back book

If they are struggling with money though, maybe ask them and offer to contribute to one larger item instead? Things like the car seat, cot, high chair can add up, so If someone close to me asked me which one I wanted and offered to buy that would be a bigger help monetary wise and would last far longer.

I would also suggest contributing towards something big, like a car seat or a high chair, if they will struggle to buy this themselves.

What a lovely idea! Your ideas sound perfect ! Weaning wise another option is bibs with sleeves which are handy for weaning.

0-3 you could also consider Lansinoh or hand wash ? Practical stuff.

I would be a bit taken aback tbh if someone sent me all this stuff stage by stage. A nice gift for baby or offer to pay for one of the bigger items yes, but a stage by stage box is saying 'you can't cope' or your don't know what your baby needs' to me
