A little musing, not intended to be taken too seriously

I've been doing the vegan thing this January. Diet only, I have no intention of giving up my leather shoes etc. I've gone for it mainly because of the fairly compelling evidence that it's better for our health and the environment but I'm not aiming or claiming to be perfect.

So far I can't say I've noticed any great benefits, apart from an astounding reduction in the grocery bill!

I've been pretty good, although caught out a few times by products with dairy where it shouldn't be. Guacamole? Crisps?

Anyway this evening I'm going to a restaurant with friends that is most definitely not vegan. I've had a look at the menu and there are a couple of vegetarian options but both contain cheese.

So what's "better" to have the dairy or go for fish? It seems to me that dairy is the thing to avoid most for health and environmental reasons but fish is flesh.

I could ask to go somewhere else, but I won't.

WWYD?

I'm not sure as the dairy industry is pretty horrific and I'm not positive that organic dairy (which they probably don't offer) is all that better (from a vegan's point of view) and regarding fish, I guess it's whether it's wild caught or farmed but obviously neither is great from a vegan's point of view. If you're going to a chain restaurant a lot of them don't cook food fresh but it is always worth asking them to leave the dairy off or offer you an alternative. It is very rare that they won't be able to do that. For example, pasta with a veg/tomato sauce. Maybe a bit boring but there is usually something.

It's more of a cheese sauce/risotto senario. There wouldn't really be a dish without the cheese.

It's quite a nice place but a steak restaurant so.....Grin

Ohhhh... What did you have end up having?

Both will give you vitamins, mineral and amino acids that you can’t get/easily get as part of a vegan diet.
I’d have both.

Wasn't it 'known' that veganism was actually worse for the planet?
