Childcare in Manchester

My husband and I are moving from London to Manchester with our baby boy who will be around 1 this summer. This will stressfully coincide with the end of my maternity leave. I am a first-time mum and I’m very aware that childcare can be really difficult to sort out. In London I know that nurseries have huge waiting list and a lot of my friends signed up their children when they were still pregnant! Can anyone let me know if this is a similar case in the Manchester Area please? As we don’t know where we will be living or working yet we really can’t organise childcare As early as we would ideally like to. We plan to rent in the south Manchester area while we search for a family home. My family are in the Oeak District so we are looking for an easy commute into the city centre and out into the Peak District ( any locations great for young families would be greatly appreciated!) Could people also let me know what the average costs for childcare, nursery, childminders are as again I really don’t know how this compares to London.

There are a lot of nurseries in south Manchester...some have waiting lists.

Places like Cheadle, Cheadle Holme, Poynton, Bramhall etc are all lovely. Nice communities, plenty of amenities, good schools, coffee shops, kids activities etc. 20mins into Piccadilly by train, near to A6 for Peak District.

I'm south Manchester and paid £65/day for preschool age daycare. One of the more expensive, but smashing.

Depends on the area of Manchester and how strict your requirements are.

Manchester is massive and has loads of available childcare. Can’t see you will have much difficulty

@screamuntilthewarisover yep will feel much better when we’ve narrowed it down a bit but great to know there are lots of options. London is mad for child care
