Do you think most children want to visit Disneyland?

We’ve never been and wondered whether they would be left out so to speak if they didn’t go?

Depends on the child surely... Not all like Disney characters or theme parks or crowds or hotels etc.

Mine have reached 19, 17 and 12 without ever wishing to go near the place. They do not feel aggrieved. They are slightly pissed off that we've not had a "Benidorm" holiday, though.

MAFIL · 17/01/2020 21:10

My DD did wanted to go when she was little. We went to Disneyland Paris for a few days when she was about 5. She loved it. I would rather have eaten my own liver.
Fortunately neither of my boys have ever indicated any wish to go and I haven't suggested it.

SushiGo · 17/01/2020 21:14

Mine never mentioned it until this year.

They aren't really bothered about meeting the characters or theme park rides so... we explained how expensive it was and they all voted for a cheaper, longer holiday elsewhere!

wendz86 · 17/01/2020 21:15

I don’t think it’s for every child . I love Disney and my kids love Disney films so was worth it for us.

inwood · 17/01/2020 21:15

We went to Paris, it was ok, they're not bothered about going back or going to Florida. Each to their own.

hopefulhalf · 17/01/2020 21:19

Nope, been to Lego land, Thorpe park, Six Flags and various european water parks- they seem happy enough.

cormorantyes · 17/01/2020 21:20

My 3 teenagers have never been and never asked to go.

Expressedways · 17/01/2020 21:22

We used to go a lot to the Paris one when I was younger because my cousins lived nearby. Apparently I used to moan about having to go even as a child- I don’t really like theme parks and I was never really into the characters. Maybe I’m just a weirdo!

elQuintoConyo · 17/01/2020 21:24

8yo ds has never shown any interest, no.

pumpkinpie01 · 17/01/2020 21:25

My DD wanted to go from the age of 12 we finally went for her 16th birthday she loved it. The fireworks at the end are amazing.

PawPatrolMakesMeDrink · 17/01/2020 21:26

My mum took me on a two night deal when I was 9. We had a 2 day pass. Went to the Louvre and on a river boat cruise the second day rather than going back to Disney land.
I didn’t get it or the fuss. But I never watched much telly of films, we didn’t have a video and rarely went to the cinema. God knows why we went really.

Teateaandmoretea · 17/01/2020 21:27

We went to Disneyland Paris for a few days when she was about 5. She loved it. I would rather have eaten my own liver.

It was a once in a lifetime experience I felt 😂.

No intention of going to the proper one the kids feel the same I think.

But to be fair we quite enjoyed it. Mind you the exchange rate was 1.40 so that probably made a difference as everything was really really fucking expensive even then.

aibutohavethisusername · 17/01/2020 21:29

I took DD when she was 6. I thought I’d absolutely hate it but I loved it. I think I’d even go back as an adult.

Poetryinaction · 17/01/2020 21:30

I never wanted to. When I was 9 my parents had some money for a holiday. They offered us Disney or Africa (Tunisia). We picked Africa, it sounded so exciting! I hope never to go with my kids. I've never liked rides or tv much though.

DilysMoon · 17/01/2020 21:31

My 3 haven't ever asked to go or shown any interest when other people we know have been. None have been in to the characters or movies so not much point going really.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 17/01/2020 21:34

As a child I couldn't think of anything more vomit inducing as Disney.

Hepsibar · 17/01/2020 21:35

We went when our children were 6 and 3 to DL Paris. Have to say was v disappointed on all sorts of levels: the lack of small cutlery for children in the hotels, the massive queues and no explanations of fast track and unfriendly staff helping when I had buggy and DH poorly, the rip off cost of food and gifts and the bag searching to take no food or water in, the airport transfer was badly signposted and we ended up catching a taxi (which was the nicest part of the trip). It was all like a glorified Butlins. Suggest going to Lapland sooo much better.

Yellredder · 17/01/2020 21:36

My daughter had never heard of WDW when we took her and, because she was very young, hadn't really watched many Disney films. She loved it though. She'd love to go back. We have recently done DLP, which again she loved, more for the rides than for the characters - although she did love meeting them!

ShinyGiratina · 17/01/2020 21:54

Mine have never mentioned it. I think it would be hellish for DS1, crowds, sensory overload, long queues and people in masks/ costumes.

Euro Disney opened at the latter end of my childhood. DM asked me if I wanted to go and I was non-commital so she wasnt prepared to pay out for it in the absence of deep enthusiasm.

Thankyou for your replies it’s really helpful.

My children love Disney. Florida though, found Paris utterly underwhelming. Florida also feels more like a normal holiday too, sunshine, pool etc.

MiniGuinness · 17/01/2020 23:37

Mine never mentioned Disneyland, but they used to love the adverts for Butlins. We have been to both and they enjoyed both. I think Disneyland is a bit overrated actually.
