Do cleaners normally change bed linen?

Hi

My old cleaner changed the beds as part of the normal clean, I asked her at the beginning. She’s retired now and I wondered if this was something standard to ask when looking for a new cleaner?

I always get cleaners to change the beds!

Bluntness100 · 17/01/2020 18:01

Mine does as I request it.

Northernsoullover · 17/01/2020 18:01

I wouldn't as standard but I will (and do) for customers who ask me to. Just ask.

Mine doesn't change beds or clean ovens.

Themadcleaner · 17/01/2020 18:05

I do for some clients but not all, if they ask im happy to do it but wouldnt automatically for a new client, some people just prefer to do their own

TulipCat · 17/01/2020 18:06

Mi e doesn't have enough time. I would need to extend her hours if I wanted this.

NaomifromMilshake · 17/01/2020 18:06

I strip them, and K puts clean linen on, a good compromise IMO.

dangerrabbit · 17/01/2020 18:07

They can do if you ask but then will have less time for other things!

GreenBasket · 17/01/2020 18:07

I don't want a cleaner if they won't change the beds - it's my most hated job.

Had one company quote and say they don't change the beds because of health and safety, hygiene reasons. They would put new covers on but we would have to strip it. Didn't take them on because of that.

ItFigures · 17/01/2020 18:08

Yes. We pay for the extra hours and she’ll also do other jobs such as :

Cleaning out the fridge
Cleaning out the cupboards and washing them down
Washing the inside of our windows
Cleaning the oven and dishwasher

Fantastic that sounds promising!

@GreenBasket Did they say why a bed was any more of a hygiene risk then a toilet bowl or bathroom bin? How strange of them Confused

BackforGood · 17/01/2020 18:11

Totally up to the individual.
It isn't "standard" as some people don't want it doing - either as they feel it is personal or they feel they don't want to pay for the extra time it takes. However it isn't an unusual request either.
Just ask them.

Jackiebrambles · 17/01/2020 18:12

Oh yes ours does, it's my fave bit of having a cleaner!

GreenBasket · 17/01/2020 18:18

@TyrionsNextWife no! I thought very odd.

Can only assume they thought DH and I have a far more active sex life than we do and that our sheets would be loaded in bodily fluids?!

pollyputthepastaon · 17/01/2020 18:18

Yes mine do for me.

BeepOpsiePie · 17/01/2020 18:29

I think a good cleaner/agency will ask what things you expect to be done on a typical visit and draw up a list. I have a friend who expects her cleaner to take out recycling, put things away in kitchen that have been left on counters, and make her bed and those are things I’d never expect my cleaner to do. But if she’s paying them and they’ve agreed it’s a service they can provide then why not I guess!

myidentitymycrisis · 17/01/2020 18:31

I would want it done, it’s part of having the room clean for me.

mindutopia · 17/01/2020 18:33

Yes, they normally can, if you want. Usually will ask. I’ve never had it done because it creeps me out at the thought of someone else changing my crusty bed linen. But then I also clean my toilets before the cleaner comes too because I can’t bare the thought of someone else having to wipe my pubic hair off something. Blush

coconuttelegraph · 17/01/2020 18:36

Within reason surely a leaner does what you personally want them to. There aren't any rules, if the cleaner isn't happy to do a particulars then presumably they tell you and find one who is.

Unless your cleaner is on this thread you won't know unless you ask her/him

Whatnametoday5 · 17/01/2020 18:38

My cleaner does but I do strip the beds. She didn’t initially but we increased her pay to cover the beds especially as in the summer if ive chucked them sheets in for a wash she will peg it out to dry!

vinoandbrie · 17/01/2020 18:40

I strip them, and the cleaner makes the beds up with fresh bedlinen.

SimonJT · 17/01/2020 18:41

Mine does, she also does laundry as well. She comes for two short sessions a week, day one she does the laundry, day two she irons the bits that need ironing.
