Is your 13yo the last out of the house in a morning?

Mine will be, in a week, when I start my new job & I'm having a small wobble about it!

Tell me it'll be ok!?

(She's sensible & perfectly capable, it's just me having a moment)

Mine is some mornings. I have been hanging on and going to work when she leaves at 8:15 but I actually prefer getting to work by 8am so have started to leave at 7:45 which means she is alone for 30mins.

She is reliable at locking up, leave lights on but that seems to be it.

Leaves lights on !

oh that depends so much.
ds would probably have been late a lot, but to be fair, he would have hated getting into trouble so would have sorted it out.
dd1 very reliable, would get out of the door on time, but most likely to leave the back door unlocked.
dd2, would choose to be up and out at same time as me, and get to school early (early riser, hates being in the house on her own)

But the real answer to your question is - is she ok with it?

lucysmam · 17/01/2020 17:24

steppemum she's fine with it. I think she quite enjoys the odd times she has the house to herself for half an hour. She makes a cuppa and plays music or gets her guitar out :)

It's just me who's having visions of all sorts of unlikely stuff happening.

Oh Gosh, no. She's scatty. She either leaves just before me to walk to school or with me to be dropped on the way.

She is left home alone at the odd time and that's fine... she doesn't move from her room Wink

Congratulations on your job, I'm sure you (both) will be OK.

I leave my 12 yr old for roughly 20-30 mins before school.
It just beats that rush to get to work.
He’s a sensible kid and so far touch wood all been ok .
He also does this at tail end of school day to, around 40 mins.
I think starting to leave them up to an hr needs to be done now to build resilience and confidence.
Go through what to do in emergency etc I’m sure will be fine Smile

Some mornings.
Absolutely no problem with her locking the front door but the house looks like a bomb site after the hour shes alone!

Whynosnowyet · 17/01/2020 18:34

My teens 13, 14 and 15 get the bus at 740!!

Redtartanshoes · 17/01/2020 18:37

Ds has been doing this since he was 11. Lights ALWAYs left on but other than that no probs at all

Justgivemesomepeace · 17/01/2020 18:38

Mine was from 11. I left at 7.15, my sister would collect her to ake her to school at 8.30 so she could check she locked up.
Then from 12 she locked up and got herself to school. She would sometimes leave the odd light on and i usually had to shift a plate or bowl when i got in but she did fine. Always ready and on time and locked up. On the odd occasion she couldnt find her keys so she took the back door keys and climbed over the 8ft wall. Hmm

It's been happening since Y6 here. Lights occasionally on but better, door always locked (even on occasions when for some reason I have still been here!)
