I need to find out how long the circumference is of the wheel. Each spoke is 37cms and there are 8 of them.

If I have the method I can work out the answer.
Thank you

The circumference of a circle is pi multiplied by diameter so you need to do 37 x pi.

Then to answer the question you need to add 8 37’s to that.

Sorry pi times 74 as each spoke only goes half way.

Chemenger · 17/01/2020 08:40

The circumference is 2 x pi x radius. The spoke length is the radius.

The spoke is the radius of the circle. The diameter is the length of 2 spokes.

Pi X diameter

InkogKneeToe · 17/01/2020 08:43

Circumference = 2 pi r where r is the radius, in this case the spoke length.

So the circumference = 2 x pi x 37 (answer in cm)

Thank you very much. Flowers

Don't forget that the question is 'work out the total length of the rim and spokes'.

So the answer is (2 x 37 x pi) + (8 x37) = 528.48 cm - it doesn't seem to say how many decimal places you should quote your answer to, so check if this is included in the instructions somewhere.
