Podcasts for a long drive

Got a long drive to do at the weekend, and am thinking a couple of great podcasts could be good company! I loved Serial and The Teacher's Pet, what else could I try? Also is there a way to make them play automatically one after the other so I don't have to keep pulling over?!

S-town (from the makers of Serial).

If you select “play all” instead of just pressing “episode one” for example, they should just run continuously, at least that’s how it works on my phone.

I use the antennapod app and they all run continuously and automatically delete, but there might be a 'play all' setting that has to be enabled.

If you like true crime/mystery type material, I've recently enjoyed (which seems to be the wrong word) one called The Doorstep Murder, where an apparently innocent man with no 'bad' history/connections was gunned down on his doorstep in a small Scottish town and his killer has never been found Sad.

Also Death in Ice Valley, where an unknown woman was found dead in suspicious circumstances and her death has never been explained and it turned out she had quite a complicated back story.

Both the above are BBC productions, as is the Missing Crypto Queen and Intrigue, which has three different series/stories to choose from.

And for something more lighthearted, I listen to a lot of Radio 4 comedy, Jay Rayner's Out to Lunch and the Scummy Mummies, which is like an audio version of Mumsnet.

A bit of a heavy one, but I loved Caliphate - a BBC world service podcast about ISIS. I also like Serial (season 3 the best) and S-Town so if you like those it might be worth a listen.

I'm spoilt for choice! I forgot I've already listened to S-Town (so you're spot on with my taste).

I didn't know of any of those BBC ones but have looked them up and they seem really interesting, so I'm adding them to the list.

Thanks everyone!

I really love Modern Love by the New York Times - some uplifting, some funny, moving.

SameOldHorrorStory · 18/01/2020 00:40

@sunseeker19 I forgot to also mention: Dirty John, which was also made into a TV show. And also Dr. Death. Both of these left me open mouthed after each episode and shaking my head.

"They walk among us," true British crime. Really therapeutic as the narrator has quite a (nice) monotone voice.

What about an audio book?

SpaceCadet4000 · 18/01/2020 00:59

The Clearing. True crime- it follows a woman whose dad was a serial killer as she pieces together memories of her childhood and considers whether he had any more victims.

If you like true crime, I love Casefile. He's based in Australia so has a lot of cases from there, but others in the US and UK.

I have enjoyed the "Intrigue" series which are real-life stories. One on a guy who tunnelled under the berlin wall and another on a murder of an English business man in China. Both fascinating.

I am listening to the fictional series "The whisper in the darkness" series. It is a re-telling of a horror story as true crime. It is really well done and I actually thought it was real until the 3rd episode (don't worry I haven't ruined it - I am just a bit gullible!).
