Ideas for getting more of a sort of sense of purpose in life

I'm generally happy in day to day life but I'm quite isolated, no friends or partner, few close relatives, I have an unskilled job with no prospects and it's unlikely I'm ever going to be able to afford to have children... I feel quite pointless.

I've looked into doing some volunteering but it's all charity shops (I have more than enough shop work in my job) and roles requiring people skills, which I don't have. I can't even give blood because I'm short and small so I don't weigh enough.

Any suggestions of little things that I could do that might give me a sort of sense of purpose?

Making your own clothes does sound very satisfying. I'd love any recommendations for YouTube channels.

I wish I was the sort of person who could do things like St John Ambulance and listening to children reading but I'm just too awkward. It's hard to explain. I function brilliantly in my head, have read the books, know what I should say, how I should act, but the reality is always different, and I can see that I make other people very awkward without really doing anything.

I have been intending to take a first aid course though. I wouldn't like to be the completely clueless runner who has no idea what to do if anybody ever falls I'll near me.

Look up lauren Guthrie on youtube she is LOVELY. She has a fabric shop and does loads of videos on making your own clothes and releases a pack on the first Wednesday of every month that has everything you need to make one item of clothing, it could be a top or a coat. Everything is in there, all the fabric, zips etc and the pattern.
It is a bit expensive and definitely not cheaper than buying an item in a shop, but the total enjoyment of learning to make something 2d into a 3d actual item of clothing that you can wear and be proud of wearing.

You can also browse the patterns on www.thefoldline.com click 'complete beginner's and it will show you all the patterns that would suit you. You can get your own fabric then.

I'm a complete beginner and may always be one.

There are 4 parts to it. Cutting out the pattern. Measuring. Pressing. Sewing.
They are all equally important. I thought I could just take off sewing but that's only a small bit of it.
Its great. The very best if luck!

Some good channels for beginners are Made to Sew (very clear explanations), Professor Pincushion, Angela Kane. There is also Sew Custom and Sew Over It. TBH I don't even watch particular channels, if you search in YouTube "how to do X" there will be several very good videos. The good thing about sewing is that there are always a few ways to do something and you can pick the one that suits you.

And once you get into it you can make your own patterns to fit you perfectly, which is very cool.

for more volunteering options, how about

reachvolunteering.org.uk/

if you can be a marshal on fundraising walks etc you could probably get lots of chat in.

You said you like reading. Is there a favourite author or genre that you could start to collect copies of? Searching in car boot sales, charity shops, second hand shops etc can become fun. You can do it alone or gradually become a regular that people reconise and start chatting to. It isn't an activity that will change the world but it's something for you to have fun with.
