40th birthday

What would you want for your 40th birthday from a family member, budget around £50?

OP posts:
BackforGood · 16/01/2020 23:39

Tickets to a show or a sports match. Something that didn't clutter up my home any more, but are something that I wouldn't "treat myself" to.

Foxes157 · 16/01/2020 23:44

I would buy a keepsake

If not I'd use it towards a party

Taddda · 17/01/2020 00:03

I'll second the tickets to a show- as for a keepsake I'd not buy anything that says '40th!' on it (made this mistake with a family members '50th'...bought a crystal glass with it engraved, just because she collects crystal, I thought 'keepsake'.....she thought 'cheeky cow'!...)
Really didn't factor in turning 50 was a bit of a sore point for her, my fault Blush

Cashmere.

Natsel84 · 17/01/2020 00:10

Depends If the present was for Male or female. Also what there interests are .

Female maybe . Afternoon tea. A facial. Voucher for make up . Bottle of perfume . A show / day out somewhere

Male.. a clothes voucher. A gift experience . Aftershave . Money towards a big purchase they want/need

Sorry if that's not of any use

katy1213 · 17/01/2020 00:31

Love the optimism here - that £50 stretches to ticket(s) plural, cashmere! and perfume.
I'd go for flowers or a really nice bottle of wine.
But no 'keepsakes' - especially not with numbers on!

RainbowMum11 · 17/01/2020 00:44

Hmm, this will be me next month.
Not flowers - they just die.
Things I might like:
Handbag
Scarf
Magnetic scarf brooch thing
Pjs
Help with some wall papering!

RainbowMum11 · 17/01/2020 00:44

Def not keepsakes or anything with a number on!!!!

RainbowMum11 · 17/01/2020 00:45

Or a voucher towards a meal at a restaurant or cinema (or both!)

midwest · 17/01/2020 01:20

Looking back gin to drown my sorrow!
Actually anything not with a keepsake theme.

Taddda · 17/01/2020 03:54

(I wish I posted this before my 'Crystalgate' Shock.....)

dancemom · 17/01/2020 06:08

Thanks everyone

For a female, not looking for anything with 40th on it!
Considered a handbag, spa day voucher was suggested but kinda lonely on your own... has plenty perfume after Christmas.

I'm turning 40 soon and would love vouchers for beauty treatments. I would also happily go on a spa day on my own

Taddda · 17/01/2020 07:19

I'd also love to go on a spa day on my own! I'd pick that over going with someone else actually- great present!

Drinkciderfromalemon · 17/01/2020 07:26

If you know she is a spa kind of person, could you get her a voucher for a place local to her that does massages/facials/nails etc and then she can please herself?

Atalune · 17/01/2020 07:58

Cashmere bed socks from the white company £30
Cashmere wrist warmers from turtle doves £25
Cashmere beanie from Cos or HandM £30

edwinbear · 17/01/2020 10:19

I'd love a bottle of decent champagne personally.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 17/01/2020 11:24

Drink! Cake! Bottle of good booze, box of high end chocs such as Booja Booja or Neuhaus.

BackforGood · 17/01/2020 17:29

Love the optimism here - that £50 stretches to ticket(s) plural,

I can go to the theatre easily for that. For some shows, I could get two tickets, yes. Alternatively - it could be that the OP might want to accompany the recipient (at the time you posted that, we had no clue about the relationship between OP and recipient).

LetsPlayDarts · 17/01/2020 17:31

Vouchers for a massage/facial.

beela · 17/01/2020 18:06

Afternoon tea for two.
