Intensive driving courses

I have vaguely heard about intensive driving courses where you can learn quickly and if you fail, you can have more lessons included in the cost until you pass.

Anyone had any experience of this and how I can find out more? I am in London.

Most Londoners do this type of thing in Watford, Luton or Milton Keynes (you can even find intensive packages that include hotels) as it tends to be a bit more easy going but you still go through similar levels of traffic / manoevres / complexity. I would start with BSM and AA and see what they have - when I passed a few years ago, both of them were offering packages for 1-2k.

Thank you.

Dd1 has been learning for ages, I should have really kept track of how many lessons she's had! Instructor charges £28 which seems quite high but maybe that's the going rate. She's got her test booked for end of Feb but if she doesn't pass she'll need more lessons.

Now dd2 is coming up to 17 and wants to start learning I thought I'd look into any alternative options.

Costs a bloody fortune!

To be fair driving lessons are meant to happen in addition to driving practice - when you don’t have access to a car at home then it can be tricky to pass. Could you get her a banger instead to practice in? Provisional license will mean the insurance is cheap.

With no other practice, it took me a year of having 1 2-hour lesson a week. That's towards the slower end of things but not exceptionally so. If I'd had more frequent lessons I might have needed less of them. My schedule did mean I got a lot of night driving practice in which I think was valuable experience.

I wouldn't recommend a crash course in driving. It's very demanding and I don't think it'll make a good driver. Also, you should fully expect a company to wriggle out of any promises "you can have more lessons included in the cost until you pass", for example by offering those lessons at ridiculous times or places.
