Lumps on babies head (with pics)

Please see attached pic for reference

About 4 weeks ago a red lump appeared on my 5 month old babies head (the lump labelled 1 on pic) it was red and angry and then eventually lessened, it now looks as pictured but you can feel a big hard pea size lump still. Now lump 2 has appeared. Any idea? Normal or trip to GP required?

sorry, could be bed bugs

TGDDGT · 16/01/2020 17:10

Is that possible on a brand new mattress? The one in his crib was bought brand new when he was born. He occasionally co-sleeps with us, but our mattress is only a year old and we've had no bites.

Try asking a professional like your HV or GP.

I’d have taken him to the go four weeks ago, to be perfectly honest.

gp

TGDDGT · 16/01/2020 17:34

I'd text my health visitor about it when it first appeared, she got back in touch after the weekend by which time it had faded and she said it sounded like baby acne which is common. I'm only asking as another one had appeared and I was going to make a GP appointment for the morning but DH said it's just baby acne again.

@TGDDGT no that’s not what baby acne looks like! Do you have pets? They look like bites, maybe fleas? I know it sounds grim but it’s so easily done, especially if baby is on the floor a lot!

TGDDGT · 16/01/2020 18:26

We have a dog who is flea treated monthly and definitely doesn't have fleas. If we had fleas in carpets would we not have bites on ankles? Same for bed bugs thought we'd have bites too.. will go gp in the morning but now I'm feeling sick about things biting him.

@TGDDGT we also have a dog that’s treated monthly, and we had fleas in the carpet! Especially with the milder weather, and the heating on a lot, it can be a problem. If it is fleas, a spray like Indorex is fab and gets rid of them, and maybe change your flea treatment - we were using Frontline which was bugger all use!

MakingABoobOfIt · 16/01/2020 18:39

@TGDDGT and regarding bites on ankles - we didn’t have any, the first we knew about it was when we undressed DS at bedtime and his tummy was covered Sad I was absolutely mortified

AloneLonelyLoner · 16/01/2020 21:31

They do look like bites but I'd say more likely fleas than bed bugs.
Also worthwhile saying we had terrible bedbugs once (moves into a flat that had them in the curtains) and we only realised because my dh had terrible bites. I wasn't bitten once

cooldarkroom · 17/01/2020 08:05

I agree, bed bugs usually bite in rows, on torso,
but if your baby has been on the floor, his head may nave been the only part not clothed.
Don't be mortified, Dog can't help it !

TGDDGT · 17/01/2020 10:08

Been GP and pharmacy and both said they don't know what it is but nothing to worry about. Brilliant. How can I check for fleas? Checked dog again last night definitely none there, hoover carpets daily. Do I just spray indorex everywhere just in case?

@TGDDGT honestly you might have missed the fleas, they’re so hard to spot. But they can live in the environment even if they’re not on your dog. I would go for a full carpet treatment with Indorex, it’s not going to do any harm.

Wheresmycider · 17/01/2020 20:25

Check for fleas in the carpet with water and a lamp.
"One way to check for fleas is by attracting them with heat. ,You’ll need a lamp, a bowl, warm water, and dish washing detergent. Fill the bowl with warm water and make it slightly soapy with the detergent. Next, place the bowl on the floor and shine the lamp over the water. Fleas will be attracted to the light and jump up towards it, then land in the water. The soap kills them, so you’ll have plenty of evidence of their presence floating in the bowl."
