DS leg hurting - what to do?

11yo DS twisted his leg while playing rugby on Sunday, he bent his leg inwards.

It looked like the muscle in his thigh hurt that evening but then it got better. It's been hurting a little this week but not badly, he's been to school no problem and not complained about it.

But last night it started getting worse. He woke at 4am in pain. He's now saying it really hurts and doesn't want to go to school.

I'm not sure what to do with him?

This is complicated by him hamming up pain, for want of a better word) sometimes in the past. He's on the spectrum and sometimes it seems to me when he's in pain, he focuses on it and seems to be in a lot of pain, but then when he's distracted it miraculously gets better and is no longer an issue.

However, waking at 4am in pain isn't him making a mountain out of a molehill is it?!

If he was like this on Sunday we would have gone to A&E. But days later, should that be a consideration? It's unlikely we'll get an appointment at the doctors now (they do appointment booking at 8am, they usually go by 8:02!)

I can't just have him off school for an injury but not seek help for it, can I? What help should I seek?

Or, would you send him in?

Is it normal for minor sprains to suddenly get worse like this?

I would just go & get it checked out. He can just go to school after that if he gets the all clear?

Most GPs usually keep some spare appointment so to see kids, but with what you describe I would just go straight to walk in centre or minor injuries.

I'm going to take him to the walk in.

Thanks :)
