Exhausted even after sleeping 9 hours and difficult to wake up (low blood pressure related I think)

All blood test vitamins etc in normal range.

I’ve not been exercising more than usual

Mid-20s age and on the skinny side of healthy weight.

No disturbances during the night but feel exhausted and like dragging myself out of a coma even after 9 hours sleep.

Only abnormal result I have is low blood pressure ( doctors said they cannot do anything about this) but I know it’s decreased a bit more recently and caused the appearance of mild dizziness around the same time the tiredness started.

Any ideas what I can do?

Tried increasing salt, etc - but it’s not helping

In the past, 8 hours of sleep would be more than enough.

Assume you have done a pregnancy test?

JulietTango · 15/01/2020 23:25

Have they tested your sodium and potassium?
And what about early morning cortisol?

Definitely not pregnant

Yes they checked electrolytes but not cortisol. Anyway, I am more tired than usual all throughout the day too.

Thanks for the replies so far - more welcome. I think it’s very likely to be due to low blood pressure as that’s the only thing I’m lower than average in but GPs have no idea how to help me apart from telling me to drink more water, which isn’t helping.

Low blood pressure is probably causing the mild dizziness, but it should not cause abnormal tiredness or difficulty waking (I'm a GP). Your blood pressure will be fine when lying flat.

If your symptoms aren't starting to improve over the next few weeks, or if they get worse at any stage, see your GP again.

I had a period of time exactly like this in my mid 20s and never really got to the bottom of it. At the time I was 'fobbed off' with post viral fatigue and eventually it did get better on its own.

Looking back now with hindsight I think I was probably just exhausted, burning the candle at both ends a bit, possibly borderline anaemic and just generally exhausting myself by mentally and physically taking on too much for too long.

Jaybird100 · 20/01/2020 10:25

@ RoomR0613 how long did it take for you to get better?

@XXcstatic Now I’m thinking it could be either chronic fatigue syndrome or postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome :( can’t even exercise as feel ready for bed from the moment I wake up all the way to bedtime

Have they checked your thyroid levels?

Jaybird100 · 20/01/2020 23:37

Yup, was all normal

POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) would match your symptoms

i have life long low BP including low enough that during pregnancy they kept retaking it assuming error.

It can cause dizziness at times and a number of other issues (it some parts of Europe its treated as a problem) but I've never heard of the sleep issue nor have I ever experienced it. I would pursue the other checks suggested.
