Pain where gallbladder was

I had my gallbladder removed over a year ago but I’m getting pain in the same area, top right of abdomen. I also suffer with quite bad acid reflux, chronic burping and gastritis which medication doesn’t seem to help. I’m going back to gastro consultant this week and I’m concerned why I’m still getting the pain and what’s causing it as I know the liver and pancreas are both in that area.

Google Sphincter of Oddi.

Skybluepink123 · 15/01/2020 14:56

I’ll have a look, thank you.

I do as well. I even that stupid pain in the upper back if I eat too much fat.

It sounds as if you need to GERD diet to let things heal though. It's quite effective if you do it properly.

Thanks Gamer for your post. Do you have all the same symptoms I’ve described? Also, what’s a GERD diet?

You can get bile duct stones. I had exactly the same as you.

Since having mine out, I can no longer take codeine/cocodamol as it gives me horrendous pain exactly like a gallbladder attack.

Glitterybelle · 11/05/2020 15:34

Did you get to the bottom of this @Skybluepink123

Skybluepink123 · 11/05/2020 16:41

No, not really. But thanks for asking.

Ah I'm sorry to hear that ☹️

@Skybluepink123
I could have written your post. I had a scan and was told it was scar tissue apparently when the food moves through your stomach that causes the pain ( sorry not a good explanation it was a while ago) I also suffered with GERD I used lansaprazole for a while. I just now try to control it with my diet.

Skybluepink123 · 11/05/2020 17:54

Thanks User that’s interesting. What kind of diet do you follow?

What @Leostar said. I’ve been in as much pain as a full blown attack from taking 2 Co codamol for a migraine but ultrasound scans show nothing visible or untoward. GP looked blankly at me when I mentioned Sphincter of Oddi. Avoid all forms of codeine.

monkeytennis97 · 11/05/2020 18:51

I had that at the beginning of lockdown for a couple of weeks- for me it was weight and anxiety based. Have lost 22lbs now and thankfully it's gone.

monkeytennis97 · 11/05/2020 18:52

I also had gallbladder removed a year ago

Queenoftheashes · 11/05/2020 18:57

I also had gallbladder out and get the same pain from codeine. Possibly worse in fact. I just stopped taking it so no idea what it meant. I also had what felt like a horrific gallbladder attack right after they’d removed it which they put down to post operative pain but I now suspect was the painkillers??

user1498572889 · 11/05/2020 20:09

@Skybluepink123
Low fat low acidic. I try to eat little and often ( not always working at the moment) I do suffer if I pig out. But the pain I get now is tiny compared to the pain of gallstones.

StatisticallyChallenged · 11/05/2020 21:02

Right after removal could be a leftover stone.

Mine was removed 18 months ago and I've now had two chronic gallbladder like attacks resulting in several days in hospital being fed morphine. They're now admitting sphincter of oddi is pretty likely in my case - either i produce "sludge" with small stones which cause it to spasm or block, or it's spasming all on it's own. Now waiting for endoscopy which of course I can't currently have
