I'm having a toenail removed on Friday

Has anyone had this done? I'm interested in how mobile you were afterwards and how quickly you could go back to sport

My DH had that done today. He drove home, and is currently preparing dinner. He just has a bandage on his toe which has to stay dry, so he'll put a plastic bag on it for his shower. I couldn't comment on sport , since you don't mention which sport . But I'd say that if you can get sports shoes on you'd be fine.

That's very reassuring. Podiatrist says not to drive for 24 hours which is fine.
Sport is gym, spin and hiking.

I had my big toenail removed at the end of September. The worst part of the actual procedure was the local anaesthetic injection, the rest of it was fine, I didn’t feel a thing. They also did phenolisation so the nail won’t grow back. When the anaesthetic wore off it was quite painful, I couldn’t sleep from the throbbing but ibuprofen helped. The healing process was extremely slow. Stock up on dressings. You can buy them on amazon. I had to change my dressing every day for almost three months. It got very badly infected and I was on antibiotics for a good month (including two nights in hospital) Invest in good, loose fitting shoes and try and rest your foot for a day or two. I didn’t drive for 48hrs.

Oh that sounds awful.
I am trying to remain positive...my dh is ridiculously squeamish about feet so will be no bloody use.
Should I take painkillers before?

My dd had a partial removal. The local injection was obviously painful for her and was definitely the worst part. Back to walking to school after 1 day off. She missed pe for a week. It was a bit sore at times but really not that bad. Better to rest properly and get better quicker in the long run.
