Mixed washing now what?

PatricksRum · 15/01/2020 03:50

How can I restore my clothes to their original colour?
I mixed them with a new blueish top not thinking. Now they've all gone grey.
I've washed on 90 with vanish etc. No result.
Currently soaking in vanish and clothes bleach but no luck so far.
What can I do?

Following this, I’ve never found the answer. Vanish is useless, I don’t get the fuss

Fantababy · 15/01/2020 04:47

In my experience, give up and be more careful sorting in the future. My new machine seems much more sensitive than the old and the colours leak on things all the time.

Ahdjdkfbdixbsk · 15/01/2020 04:55

Vanish only works up to 30 degrees. Soak for a few days in vanish and cool water.

Gotthetshirt23 · 15/01/2020 05:13

Colour run remover ?
Google

PatricksRum · 15/01/2020 05:38

@Ahdjdkfbdixbsk That's where they are right now. Hoping for the vest.
I also saw a salt and white wine vinegar "trick"
Not convinced.

Gonna buy some colour run remover

I think the 90 degree wash will have set the colour.

stripeypillowcase · 15/01/2020 05:51

it will fade over time.
if cotton you could dylon them a more appealing colour...

stopchewingeverything · 15/01/2020 06:10

You can buy something called Miofresh from Amazon. Its for washing reusable nappies but i now use it for all stains as it is amazing. Gets far more out than Vanish. My white stuff is better than ever. I would give that a go!

greyspottedgoose · 15/01/2020 06:18

Soak in cold water and lemon juice

whiplashy · 15/01/2020 13:36

Soak in Ariel

stopchewingeverything · 16/01/2020 11:08

@Ahdj it is your first link, the cleanser. One scoop in a wash and everything is brilliant white!

42andcounting · 16/01/2020 22:21

Dr Beckman's colour run remover. It will make your house smell like flatulence, but as long as the clothes haven't dried out it will do the job.

PatricksRum · 20/01/2020 06:20

I've tried Mio fresh as had to buy some for the nappies anyway.
I've tried a few other things with no luck. :(
My last try is going to be @42andcounting your suggestion. Have you used it before? If so, did you soak the washing or use it in the washing machine?

OP posts:
42andcounting · 20/01/2020 07:01

Yes, I've used it before, I soaked it in a washing up bowl, then washed in the machine afterwards. It stinks, but has always worked for me.

OnlyLittleMissOrganised · 20/01/2020 07:03

Ace bleach. Its specifically designed to remove colour from clothes that have been accidentally dyed.

Fairylea · 20/01/2020 07:05

What colour were the clothes that have been dyed? If they’re white or cream I’d be inclined to soak them in a diluted bleach solution.

42andcounting · 20/01/2020 07:05

Ps There's a video on YouTube on how to use it, I tyou want to watch it before you buy it.

PatricksRum · 20/01/2020 07:05

Thank you @42andcounting will try that.
And @OnlyLittleMissOrganised will also get some of that. Thank you Smile

Tolleshunt · 20/01/2020 07:09

I would soak in a strong solution of Napisan for a few days.

42andcounting · 20/01/2020 07:11

Ahhh, I've just noticed you washed them at 90 degrees. That may well have set the colour. I've had great success with the Dr B's, but only when it's the only thing I've tried, and when the clothes haven't dried out. Worth a try if you're very attached to it though....

Bluesheep8 · 20/01/2020 09:13

@AhdjdkfbdixbskThat's where they are right now. Hoping for the vest.

Sorry but that typo made me smile. No advice unfortunately, I did the same once and some expensive pristine white t shirts ended up chewing gum grey with lilac splodges. No way to rescue them, unfortunately Confused

lborgia · 20/01/2020 10:34

90 degree wash, and salt will both set the dye.

In fact, salt is actually recommended when dying clothesConfused

PatricksRum · 21/01/2020 02:40

@Bluesheep8 just noticed that  it's a pain.

@42andcounting I haven't allowed them to dry yet, they've been soaking in some solution ever since so hopefully.

@lborgia there were quite a few articles on it

Maybe together with vinegar it's ok? I'm a bit obsessed with grey whites, and tbh, the only way I've been able to deal with them is always adding a colour catcher to my white washes. I do one big white wash a week, and add half a cc sheet to each wash, and it's saved me several times! I know it's an extra expense, but it's more than paid for itself in the last couple of years. I also use each one twice!
