How much money for a weekend in London would you say would cover things? See a few sights and accommodation with one child?

We stayed at the Permier Inn at Tower Bridge and it was great. The purpose of our trip that time was to go to the Tower of London - we spent pretty much a day there, did a walking history tour of the environs and it was excellent, DC was 10 and also enjoyed it.

We spent another day at the Natural History Museum and that was a big hit too. Then a mooch around Covent Garden and Regent St for Hamleys. It was in a December so the decorations etc were fab and it was a really lovely trip.

We have been back since with a group of friends and their kids and we stayed Premier Inn near Wembley as we were there for a concert and next day we brought the early teens to the London Dungeons and London Eye and they all LOVED it

It completely depends on what you want to see. Natural history museum, science museum etc. are all free. Food can be as expensive or cheap as you make it - you can buy a couple of Tesco meal deals for £3 each or find subway/mcds etc. Chain restaurants often have set menus or are cheap enough.
Have you looked at air bnb’s?
If you want to see a show look at TodayTix you can get tickets on the day cheaply (Wicked, 9to5 and others) or you can book ahead with them.

Consider staying at youth hostels to reduce costs. We’ve stayed at ones near St. Paul’s and another near kings cross. They’re more like travel lodges now, and you can get family rooms.

Alternatively Tavistock hotel near Russell Square is reasonably priced and fairly central.

All the main museums are free, as well as Selfridges, Harrods, Hamleys etc.

London is great just to walk around - up Pall Mall to Buckingham palace, Tralfer square, along the river etc.

Also, a lot of sites are quite close together, so it’s often quicker to walk then to catch a tube.

check any tesco points if you have them...you can 3x the value to use in certain restaurants, like prezzo or cafe rouge

also if you are going on the train get logged into the Days Out Guide website....lots of two for ones/free child places just for printing off a voucher and keeping hold of your train tickets.

city mapper is a great app for getting around, London is very walkable

Coaches re cheaper to travel on London, or consider some of the railcards -network card, family railcard etc, you can get some cheaper using Tesco points also.

Having living here for 20 years, London is as cheap or expensive as you want. Loads of cheap food, free museums, travel is free for kids.

One of the kings cross travelodges is quite run down and so cheap - can be £30 a night. Fine to stay in though.

Travelodge kings cross royal Scot

Have you checked the split ticket apps for train fares?

If you're staying over a weekend the city Travelodges (Liverpool Street, Moorgate etc) are often a lot cheaper than the tourist area ones. But easy enough to get to the sights from. Also docklands can be cheap on the weekends.

If you have choice stay a Sunday night as always the cheapest night of the week.
