How do you spend your days off

I've recently dropped some hours at work and now have two blissful days off during the week when dc will be at school and dp at work. I've got a lot of household stuff to do - a major declutter is needed and I plan to tackle it room by room which will take some time. I'd also like to get on top of cleaning so I don't have to bother so much at the weekend. But what else can I do? I want to try and spend my time productively not just get into a lazy rut! Am planning on joining the gym and trying to go swimming or maybe a fitness class like yoga. Maybe learn to cook a few new things and take my dog on some nice walks and read books. Things I never usually get the time to do.

What do you do in your free time?

Totally varies but spend too much time on Mumsnet Grin.

I do volunteering, meet up with friends, see my elderly parents, go for a walk (not very often), in the summer I go to outdoor swimming pools, I like going shopping in different towns to have a look round and maybe lunch out, this week I am going to a Spa, I like to go to the local college for a cheap haircut or beauty treatment. Sometimes I just have a lazy bath and a nap.

I do a bit of housework/cooking, not much though - certainly to be Mumsnet standards.

@Ragwort ha yes I suspect I'll be wasting a lot of hours on MN but i really want to reduce screen time and do more healthier and wholesome things. Some nice ideas there, enjoy the spa!

I also have two days a week off. The school run obviously makes for short days. I also take my elderly parents shopping, do a lot of washing and volunteer at DDs' school for an hour once a week.

Huntlybyelection · 14/01/2020 15:38

Two days not working here. Both days I have to do the school run but am free 9-3 basically.

I clean (a little)
Do a supermarket shop
Go for a long run

I end up wasting too much time so hoping for inspiration or enthusiasm here!

Before you start, I recommend reading Marie Kondo's book. It's great for really looking at the clutter and being sensible about getting rid. The less you have, the easier it'll be to manage.

MiseryChastain27 · 14/01/2020 15:59

Thanks for the tips. I also have to do the school run but even 9-3 alone twice a week feels like a massive luxury! I suspect the days will fly by and I'll not have as much time as it feels like I will atm.

The Marie kondo idea is great I've heard good things about her and definitely need some help in my epic decluttering mission!

It's scary how quick 9-3 whizzes by. I have one day off and never do all the stuff off my list.

Loads of what I do is invisible house admin, no-one notices unless I don't do it. I tell myself it frees up the weekends but it also makes me grumpy when dh dares to imply I lie by a pool sipping cocktails on my day off he didn't do that twice

My DH is convinced I sit and watch Netflix and eat biscuits - cheeky twat Grin

LuvMyBoyz · 14/01/2020 17:55

When I had one day a week off I joined walking groups. Then I realised I could walk every day if I retired early so I did.

NemophilistRebel · 14/01/2020 18:01

I sit an watch Netflix and eat biscuits

In the summer I sit on a deck chair in the garden (sometimes with a beer)

Pinkarsedfly · 14/01/2020 18:02

My day off today.

I had a lazy breakfast in bed and read my book.
Did half an hour of yoga.
Did a bit of tidying.
Walked into the nearby town and did a couple of errands.
Did a supermarket shop.
Drove to the post office to drop off a parcel.
Did some planning (teacher).
Made a beef stew.

This evening I plan to do some knitting, practise guitar and have a bath.

Riveting stuff!

Whynosnowyet · 14/01/2020 18:07

Cafe for a quiet breakfast!!
Quiet walk down the beach with ddog. Home for a few chores. Quiet sandwich for lunch.
Few more chores.
Coffee at 245pm to enjoy my last 15 mins of quiet.
3pm multitudes of dc start arriving home.
*5 dc but sounds like multitudes...
Haven't had a day of since well before Xmas though.
Maybe next week...

managedmis · 14/01/2020 18:09

Pedicure
Coffee
Books
Walks
Cycling if fine
Cooking

Pipandmum · 14/01/2020 18:15

Ideal day off: Meet friends for coffee after school run, walk dogs on beach, go to gym (or a facial or a massage as gym is not my favourite activity by a long shot), reluctantly do some washing/housework (it's still gotta get done), read the papers (generally a couple Sundays still unread), take a nap (luxury!).
Alternatively I'd meet a friend for a day out shopping.
Then it's 5pm kids get home time to get supper on!

1happyhippie · 14/01/2020 18:23

I have one day off during the week while everyone else is out.
In my head I plan to get all sorts done. Cleaning, tidying, washing etc.
In reality I do very little! I either meet a friend and go shopping/lunch or I catch up on things I wanted to watch, read, walk the dog and sit on mumsnet eating biscuits!
This week I did start decluttering the kitchen ready to decorate, looking at it now you would never know!
