What has your toddler refused to do today?

My 18 month old has learnt that he has some control over what happens if he says yes or no. Mostly he says no. I'm trying to convince myself that he is just advanced and going through the terrible 2's 6 months early! Today he has said no to:

  • getting undressed
  • getting dressed
  • having his nappy changed
  • having a clean nappy put on
  • getting in the car
  • accepting any help carrying the basket at the shops
  • eating a banana (he bloody loves a banana)
  • me taking away the banana
  • getting out of his high chair
  • a nap (quite emphatically)

There's more, so many more! He is a little dictator who likes to throw himself of the floor if he's frustrated and blame me even if I was on the other side of the room. But he has just run towards me, arms out for a "cuggle!". So I will keep him after all.

What have your toddlers refused today? He'll grow out of it right? Right?!

This made me smile. Ds is 18mths and says no then bolt's. He's bitten me twice and drawn blood.
My mums advuce is don't ask tell eg we're are putting shoes on now. So it's not a question and use quations for easy thing like do you want a banan or an apple?

Hah, he's too canny for that! Generally with food actually he will make a clear choice, but he has learnt the word "both" from somewhere Grin

Oh I've just reread what your wrote Blush

I do try the "ok, xyz now!", guess what the response is (unless it's that we are going out, in which case he shouts "go go!" And runs to the door!

DS is 2 1/2
He is currently refusing to nap despite being knackered. He’s shouting that mummy is a silly girl.
He refused to get out the little tykes car
Sing songs at gymnastics
Eat half of his lunch

I find limited choices really helped - I never ask a yes or no question, and I never give a direct order he can argue against. So never “Shall we put your shoes on?” Or “Put your shoes on!”, instead “shall we wear the red trainers or the blue ones?”

Everything from the moment he woke up.

This isn't an exaggeration, its a daily battle.

Right now, DGS 2.5 is refusing to use any word other than dinosaur. We're watching Walking with Dinosaurs, and he's completely smitten.

My four year old refused to leave the Dental Surgery because there was a car in the toy box in the waiting room that he wanted to play with all afternoon. He screamed all the way home, demanding I turn around and go back whilst I couldn't stop laughing. To shut him up, I told him we would go back next week as I have another appointment (he will be at nursery while I have my appointment and will have forgotten all about by then).
