I was wondering whether this would be easy to take in. The dress is a 16 and dd is an 8/10 or whether it would be too difficult with the design. Also if it can how much approx would it cost? I've never had anything altered before. Thanks

This us the exact dress she had in mind for her prom and if she gets it 2nd hand it means she can get her hair extensions done (we're on a very tight budget)

I think the bodice would need to be unpicked, restitched reattached to the skirt. Is it stretchy material, if so the previous wearer may have stretched it already and the fabric be quite delicate.

Yes it would be very time consuming to do and expensive to get a professional to do it. Your chances of getting this done well are slim to none due to the size difference.

I've not bought it yet, wanted to know how easy to alter it would be first.

Also depending on which method has been used to create the bussell it may not even be possible to alter the skirt

I think it would be a nightmare to take in tbh!

Bodice would need sewing, back would need adjusting, and the skirt would probably need adjusting too.... all those layers🙈

I'd say yes, but if you don't sew yourself could be pricey - ask for local recommendations for a seamstress good at alterations on FB and get a quote.

SallyLovesCheese · 14/01/2020 09:22

I think it would be hard and pricey. Not easy just to pinch a cm or two from each side, you'd have to cut the layers of the skirt and the bodice shape would change regardless of where you took fabric from. Sadly, I think your daughter is going to have to look for another dress.

Ok, thank you everyone. It's the style she is after but rare to see. Will keep our eyes out again.

I had my wedding dress taken down 2 sizes and it was £300 Shock

Allington · 14/01/2020 09:28

tbh anything with that much of a size change is not 'taking in', it's more like recutting and sewing the whole dress.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 14/01/2020 09:31

No! More than 2 dress sizes become a bloody nightmare. The bodice would have to be competely taken apart and reconstructed!

If you have a local dressmaker/clothes alterer show them the pictures and ask! They'll probably be able to do something with the skirt and could make a new bodice, using the lace from this one as an overlay .
