Have you heard of google?
It really is much easier to just go onto their website and read about them, because on here you will get random answers which will apply to the poster's own location. Go to their website and look up your area.

Ive had a look and I think it's to get kids more used and working towards university? Kids can graduate after finishing an activity I think!

There is a maths one I saw on a flyers with University stamp on it. Just wondered if anyone has any experience of them

Lulualla could have posted the link for you: www.childrensuniversity.co.uk/

I'd never heard of it, so I was interested to see what it is!

Lulualla · 13/01/2020 14:55

It's not really. It's just extra-curricular clubs and learning, with a little pretend graduation at the end. Its really got no bearing at all on what uni the kids will go to, or if they will go to uni at all.
They do all sort of activities, and are linked with other companies. I think Pets at Home do a Children's University class on caring for pets.
It's really no different from sending your kids to language lessons, computer programming club, art courses etc. Its just extra curricular clubs with the gimmick of "childrens university".

@BlaueLagune
Yes I could have, but if she is looking for reviews for it then she is better googling and finding reviews from other people, as well as checking the site itself.
Mumsnet really isn't the first port of call when you want to find something out. Google it!

Overseasmom100 · 13/01/2020 15:00

A bit mis-leading I reckon then, I was thinking that the Maths class would be "superior" as it is linked to a university or something

In our area it was more about getting credits for activities that the kids were already doing, e.g. brownies, swimming lessons etc (as long as they were accredited to CU). They got a graduation ceremony at the local University with gowns and a lunch. There were different awards depending on hours completed. My child loved the graduation, and for a non academic child it might be the only chance of a graduation ceremony at university!

wow @Lulualla, hope you've let Mumsnet know that their website's not for information. What an arsey comment to make. "Never heard of Google" Hmm

Overseasmom100 · 13/01/2020 15:14

I was logged into Mumsnet so thought I'd post with it being full of Mums and wanted some independant reviews...I always use Mumsnet because Mumsnetters are so helpful Smile

Anyway that aside I think I have the jist of it...

@whispersonkittens

For general stuff, asking a forum is great. But for something like this, which is specific to your local area, mumsnet isn't much use.

The children's university have hundreds of courses and classes available in some locations, but in others they will only have 1 thing. In the general area around where I live, they have 1 thing. Its really not good to get someone coming online saging how great their arts classes are for the OP to then go and check herself and find they arent actually available where she lives.

I found the website vague. And it offered me things all over the north of England so the search wasn’t working.

RunningKatie · 13/01/2020 16:40

Our local CU is amazing. Loads of providers are signed up to it and then there are free activities in some school holidays that also give credits.
My dc love getting the badges and certificates.
