So annoyed. Mortgage refused because of a CCJ

served on dh and it's for someone else with the same name.

I'm so pissed off.

It could take weeks for it to be taken off his credit report.

We had no idea about this CCJ and when the mortgage broker came back with the news our application had been rejected as a result, we were astonished. And we started investigating.

So, what can I do about it in terms of making a complaint? It has really set us back.

We had something similar. Went for a mortgage to find a massive missed payment on DH credit wrt insurance. Except he'd gone to court to prove he didn't owe the money years before of the judgement was in his favour. It should never have touched his credit.

We had to go through the financial ombudsman with all the evidence. It was removed without any argument but it did take a while. We lost that house.

And no apology? Nothing?

Absolutely not. I wanted compensation. It had caused us massive stress. We then had to rent for a few years as well.

But we were entitled to nothing.

DH was not at fault at all. That was without dispute from all parties. But we got nothing.

Always run a credit report for yourself and dh every month
There are loads of free sites
I have had connections with other people removed as credit agencies are not infallible
I hope you get it sorted out soon

Ouch OP how annoying and disappointing for you. Agree it could take some time to be removed and also agree that checking your own credit score routinely is a sensible thing to do especially if you are planning to take out a financial product. We ran ours before we applied for the mortgage to avoid wasting money on fees/house hunting petrol costs/ further damage to credit scores from failed applications/ wasted time etc.

No sage words as I don't think there is anything you can do other than wait, apply to have it removed, set up a free trial with Experian or similar to monitor the situation. What a pain though, I feel for you!

On the back of this thread I checked my score today, as we are planning to buy our first property soon. There is a £14 delinquent payment to EE from 2 years ago - apparently a final payment when I switched from them to Vodafone and someone deleted my direct debit before the last payment was made. I was told it would all happen automatically, and the EE people told me when I got my PAC number that my account was closed, contract finished, done and dusted. In 2 years I never got a letter or call about it (lived at the same property), years and years paying my direct debit without a hitch and somehow this ONE snafu has destroyed my credit score so I am only 2 points above "very poor"!! I have no other debt or delinquency - credit card for years that has been paid off in full each month, etc. Even though it has now been paid off it has not changed the credit score.

I have been going round in circles all day trying to get this sorted - it's an absolute nightmare - they are trying to say all I can do is wait 6 years! That can't possibly be right. It feels so utterly ridiculous!

Xiaoxiong · 13/01/2020 21:15

Which is a long winded way of saying - I feel your pain OP!!

HollyBollyBooBoo · 13/01/2020 21:22

How frustrating op. Lesson learned too late now but you should definitely know what your credit rating is like especially before going for something like a mortgage.

You'll now also have to declare that you've been turned down for a mortgage on your next application.

Nomorelaundry · 13/01/2020 21:34

I wouldn't. We never did.

TiddyTid · 13/01/2020 22:31

Your broker should have checked your credit report before going ahead with the application.

Cobblersandhogwash · 14/01/2020 12:11

Broker did run a check.

The CCJ was lodged in Dec 2019 after he'd done that and then the mortgage company did their checks. Such bad luck.

Oh apologies! That's awful! Hope you can resolve this soon
