Being horribly judgemental (baby name related)

Someone I know has had a beautiful baby boy. The name she has given him is a bit odd.

I know it's not my place to have an opinion but I can't help but think this poor boy will be made fun of as he grows up. I've name changed as I don't know for sure she's not on here and I don't want her to find the rest of my posts if she is. I know of no other children with this name. She's from a similar socioeconomic background as me.
She's called him Cloud. I can't even think of a nickname he could go by.

Kids take the piss out of all names, if so inclined, they don't know the difference between Isabella and Cloud.

I know a Claudia who is called Cloud or Cloudy and nobody bats an eyelid.

Sagradafamiliar · 13/01/2020 13:34

Well I might what, lying? Sorry, reread my post and don't know what you mean. I didn't give an opinion either way.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 13/01/2020 13:43

If OP had come on asking if Cloud was a good name she'd have been laughed off the thread and annihilated,
What sort of person does that? How thick-witted do you (general, not aimed at you) have to be to a) not accept that other people have different opinions/tastes and b) think that your opinion matters a wit, and c), think that laughing off the thread/annihilating them is fine and dandy?

...but because it's a different viewpoint everyone's pretending it's completely common place 😂 'oh yeah it's better than Archie' dearie me.
Honestly? There are so many names and spellings now that there's nothing new under the sun. So becoming more and more commonplace.

I think, Sagrada it was your 'wetting yourself' emoji that made me believe you were firmly on the side of 'laughing people off the thread'.

Given that you posted that ^^ Sagradafamiliar, I would imagine that's what Lying is saying you might do.

And you kind of have given your opinion in a roundabout way, by assuming the poster would've been 'laughed off the thread and annihilated'.

WorraLiberty · 13/01/2020 13:45

Sorry, X posted with Lying there Blush

74NewStreet · 13/01/2020 13:46

I always find the “well, it could be worse” viewpoint really odd. Being only slightly shit is a world away from being half decent.

2020BetterBeBetter · 13/01/2020 14:01

I have a cousin called 'Claudia' but she's not from this country and pronunciation is 'Cloudier', it's a pretty name.

I have an Italian friend who has the same name and pronunciation. It is pretty.

StarUtopia · 13/01/2020 14:05

I think it's quite nice! It's a grower!!

Could be worse. Kid in my child's class is called Scout - Kids call her Sprout!!!

Urkiddingright · 13/01/2020 14:17

I think weather names are a new fad thanks to the Kardashian clan. Stormi and Reign spring to mind, Storm seems to have become quite popular recently (at least with z list celebs). Cloud is probably just following that ilk. One of the former playboy bunnies used Rainbow a few years ago too...

Urkiddingright · 13/01/2020 14:20

they were called Cloud and Raine.

One of the school mum’s has a Willow and Meadow. She seems otherwise perfectly sensible, her name choices just don’t match who she represents herself as iykwim. She seems more the Olivia and Emily type to look at.

I teach albeit older teens and adults and I don’t laugh at any names, I’ve heard it all at this point.

bluebluezoo · 13/01/2020 14:31

Could be worse. Kid in my child's class is called Scout - Kids call her Sprout!!!

Maybe set To Kill a Mockingbird as homework then? You too, as you seem to be taking the piss as well Hmm

Sagradafamiliar · 13/01/2020 14:34

Erm no, I was clearly laughing at the thread (clue: 'hilarious thread') because of the hypocrisy at how they usually go. I couldn't give a flying fuck what anyone calls their kid(s).

ItIsWhatItIsInnit · 13/01/2020 15:09

I’ve known kids teased for a trillion reasons but I genuinely can’t think of one ever being their name.

You've lived a sheltered life. I got picked on constantly because of my name, and it's not even weird - just foreign.

MonsterChopz · 13/01/2020 15:23

I also know someone who has (very) recently names her son Cloud. Poss same person!

It's not a name I'd pick but it seems to suit him (or rather suits his parents)

MikeUniformMike · 13/01/2020 15:39

There is St Cloud.

flossletsfloss · 13/01/2020 17:16

I think you're a bit of a dick OP. Judge away privately, but you've started a thread that your friend might see. I'd sure as hell rather be called Cloud than be you're mate!

namechange201020 · 13/01/2020 17:33

And again @flossletsfloss if you'd read my posts this has got out of hand and I've acknowledged I've been a twat.

I rather like it! Not as good as Cloudesley Shovell though.
