Alexa compatible light bulbs

I’m trying to find light bulbs that work with Alexa and my BT Wi-fi. I bought one from amazon that’s Alexa compatible but it says it only works with 2.4GHz Wi-fi and not 5GHz Wi-fi which my BT is.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any recommendations?

I bought a smart plug to use for lamp and just tell Alexa to turn it on/off... Never needed a different bulb for mine. Depending how your setting up may not suit you of course. Ours only gets used really basically

Every smart device I've found says it only works with 2.5Ghz but they sort themselves out. You may have to play around with some settings but they'll all work IME. I love a smart light bulb, only problem is getting DH to stop turning the lights off at the switch which stops them working Hmm

OP - I think most BT routers allow for dual band (both 2.4 and 5) so it may be as easy to switch this feature on the router?

If not, then liht bulbs that connect to a wired hub should work. e.g. Hue bulbs connect to the Hue bridge which you wire into the router - and work with Alexa. This is more expensive, though.

We have several Philips hue bulbs and a bridge. On the dearer side (although we got them all at different times in amazon sales), but they work well with Alexa.

Roomba, how do I go about changing the band! That sounds tricky!

The specifics depend on the router but you

a) sign into the router by typing the IP address into your web browser address bar
b) using the router login details provided by BT (may be on a sticker on the router and are different to your wifi login details)
c) finding the setting for dual band or a tick box to enable 2.4Ghz

BT help should be able to advise you if you get stuck

Thanks for that. I’ll give it a go!
