What do you do with tampons?

Apologies, I know this might sound weird.
I’ve always used sanitary towels but am a recent convert to tampons.
When you are finished with them what do you do? Towels can be wrapped up in the packaging, but there’s no plastic wrap with tampons..

Am I missing something??

Wrap in toilet paper. Bin.

happymrsc · 12/01/2020 18:46

Yup, toilet paper and bin

MirriMazDuur · 12/01/2020 18:46

I wrap them in toilet paper and put them in the bin.

Toilet paper and bin

Yadaaday · 12/01/2020 18:48

That’s what I’ve been doing but you can see all the blood. I’ll try more loo roll.

Mine are always too saturated to wrap in toilet paper (sorry tmi) so use biodegradable plastic bags and bin.

I’m trying to get used to a mooncup but not 100% a convert yet....

Yadaaday · 12/01/2020 18:51

I’ve thought about mooncups too but not sure if I like the thought.
Might have a look for some biodegradable nappy bags, don’t know why I hadn’t thought of that!

What if you have a septic tank which is emptied annually, do you still bin the tampon? Doesn't it all still go into landfill either way?

aNonnyMouse1511 · 12/01/2020 18:52

Go further. Concert to a cup. sO much better.

HelloDulling · 12/01/2020 18:53

Loo roll and bin. Bought a bin with a lid so no one can see what’s in it.

Yadaaday · 12/01/2020 18:55

How messy is a cup? I’m often in someone else’s house as part of my job, it just sounds too messy!

OP posts:
QueenOfTheSavages · 12/01/2020 18:57

Most people can leave a cup in for 12 hours safely

QueenOfTheSavages · 12/01/2020 18:58

Sorry posted too soon. So unless you work longer than 12 hours you could potentially never have to empty it at work.

Lunafortheloveogod · 12/01/2020 18:59

Loo roll, bin.. if I’m not at home loo roll n a nappy sack for other people’s bins. There’s little bags you can get I think designed for sanpro.
Cups aren’t too messy, if you’re not a really heavy flow person you can usually wait till you’re home to change it too. Minus the odd tiny spotting like leak I was always fine, I assume that was from blood going further down than where it sits while changing n washing it or showering.

ComtesseDeSpair · 12/01/2020 18:59

Cups are actually very neat after the first couple of tries - reach in, take hold of it by the stem or gently grip the base, ease it out and pour the contents away. I rarely even get much more than a small smear of blood on my fingers.

Plus you never get caught short mid-period like with a tampon when you go to the toilet and realise your tampon needs changing but you haven’t brought your bad with you.

Sparklingbrook · 12/01/2020 19:00

Wrap in loo roll, bag in a biodegradable bag and bin.
Always on a thread about tampons specifically people start going on about Mooncups. Confused

Topseyt · 12/01/2020 19:02

I get flooding too so soak through anything.

I wrap saturated tampons in toilet paper, put them in a nappy sack and bin them. I don't like using the nappy sacks too much, but needs must when they are so saturated.

AgathaVanHelsing · 12/01/2020 19:03

A cup is less messy than tampons!

JigsawsAreInPieces · 12/01/2020 19:06

Toilet roll, bin.

DO NOT FLUSH THEM!

FarmerFrump · 12/01/2020 19:11

sosomany · 12/01/2020 19:15

My own lined bin, straight in, no loo paper. Loo paper pointless as the blood soaks through anyway. Change bin frequently.

Wrap in some toilet paper and then a nappy bag & off to the bin! Doing the mooncup as well and prefer that a lot more since it helps with cramps getting less!

lovesT · 12/01/2020 19:29

Mooncup all the way! Not messy, just takes getting used to. Surely no messier than tampons? I went straight from pads to mooncup so I wouldn't know but can't be any worse ...

I've had mine for 5 years, best thing ever! Currently not using it as I'm pregnant but will be using again when periods start again. Please give it a go!
