Meal plan this week?

Would love to see what you have planned.

Would also be interested to know how your 'structure' a meal plan. I try and not eat the same sort of proten or carb every day, so will have rice once; pasta once. potatoes once for example.

My relaiance on chicken is fairly epic, so I am also trying to move away from that and insert more vegetarian meals.

Just interested how other people do it in their daily lives!

APurpleSquirel, can I ask how you make your spicy sausage egg fried rice please as I really like the sound of that and I think it would go down well here with DH and DS!

happypotamus · 12/01/2020 18:03

Saturday - dhal was on the meal plan, but it was DH's turn to cook and he didn't cook it, so DC had pasta with peas and sweetcorn and grated cheese, DH and I had vegan 'fish' fingers, new potatoes and broccoli
Sunday - vegan 'chicken' and mushroom pie, mash and veg
Monday - I will be at work at dinner time, I don't know what DH will cook for him and DC
Tuesday - fish, baked beans and rainbow chips (carrots, parsnips and beetroot cut into chip shapes and roasted)
Wednesday - spicy tomato risotto
Thursday - pasta with a tomato and olive sauce

DH is vegan, DC and I aren't.

@YappityYapYap sure - we get some spicy sausages, currently the Sainsbury's Chorizo style ones, squeeze out the meat into balls & fry in a frying pan. Boil some rice (we use white basmati). Add in any veg you want to the sausage balls (we like stir fry types - onion, peppers, sweet corn etc). Once that's cooked, tip in the cooked drained rice. In a jug or mug crack & whisk several eggs - amount will depend on how many your cooking for & how eggy you like it. We usually go for about 4-5. Add the egg to the rice, veg & sausages & cook, stirring till all the egg is cooked. Done.
We've tried this with several types of sausages but the spicy chorizo type ones have been the best as they flavour the rice with their oil.
Also do this dish with bacon instead of sausages & it's still yummy. My mum used to make it when we were kids.

Omg....some really delicious sounding recipes. My kids love Dahl - my go to is butternut squash Dahl. But if anyone can share a recipe I'd love to vary my repertoire.

My plan is based on how much time I have to cook depending on kids evening activities. This week GP are over 2 nights helping out.

This week:
Today - pork loin roast dinner
Tue - Chicken curry
Wed - Sausage pasta
Thurs - Butternut squash and lentil soup
Fri - eggs
Sat - DH bday - so fish and chips
Sun - Steak and rice

LittleMachine · 13/01/2020 20:29

I have a list of general mains and a list of sides and I mix and match over the week. I save them all on my phone and try not to repeat over the month. I sometimes go back and copy a full week from a previous months.

So for example my general list will have:

Mince based (Shepherd's pie, spag bol, chilli, lasagne on rotation)
Casserole (Chicken casserole, scouse, braised steak, 3 bean etc)
Meat steak (gammon, lamb, beef steak, chicken breast)
Slow cooked 'roast'
Sausages
Burgers
Meatballs
Curry
Breaded (eg fish, chicken kiev etc)
Stir fry
Fish

Then sides
Jackets
Rice
Pasta
Noodles
Roast potatoes
Sweet potato
Wedges
Mash
New potatoes

Then I always have vegetables as well. I always have pizza on a Friday though or takeaway.

This week is:

Monday - Scouse (bit like hotpot)
Tuesday - Cod loin, rice, chilli fried broccoli
Wednesday - Spaghetti and meatballs
Thursday - Roast gammon, roast potatoes, veg
Friday - Pizza
Saturday - Stir fry chicken in honey, garlic and chilli with egg noodles and veg

I am liking some of these ideas.
Has anybody got cheap and easy favourites for one adult and one 8 year old child.
Very time limited due to being a working single parent.
Don't like curry!
Child cant have gluten.
We do a fried rice thing with eggs and veg.
We do pasta/pesto or pasta and sauce. GF pasta...
Meat, potato and veg.
Eggy bread, eggs on toast
Baked spuds with cheese and sweetcorn or tuna sweetcorn.
We do eat meat, but most days are veggie.
We fo a slow cooker stew that lasts 2 days.

@MyNameHasBeenTaken what about soups? You can make them at the weekend and reheat. Lentil soup is a favourite in my house.
Anything where you roast the veg first.
Let your child research their favourite.

MinnieMountain · 14/01/2020 07:14

Sunday- Steak, cabbage and potato wedges.
Monday- coq au vin and orzo pasta.
Tuesday- leftovers
Wednesday- prawn red Thai curry and rice

Friday- vegi burgers
Saturday- DH is away, so DS will have plain pasta and veg and I'll have a stir fry.

DS eats at MIL's twice a week, so we reserve our spicy things for those nights.
