What does your 11 year old boy do at the weekend??

DS seems to have watched tv all weekend...

He usually plays sport on Saturday morning. He seems too old for "play dates" and seems reluctant to organise anything with friends himself.

He's not into lego / making stuff. He does play Xbox.

at 11 (he is 13 now) ds would play xbox, go to the cinema with his friends, skateboard (he learned around age 11 and now goes regularly to local skate park) and play football/rugby. you can see if there is a scout group near you or a sports club?

Pipandmum · 12/01/2020 14:10

He would fo school match on the saturday which might mean away all day (we live in an island and most matches are in the mainland). Then sunday two and a half hours rugby training (or a match) then after lunch homework and chilling. He stopped gaming at 13.

hopeishere · 12/01/2020 14:19

Wow pip that's a big commitment!

Ds2 is a member of a football team. They have matches on Saturday mornings (and training on Tuesday evenings). He plays out with his schoolfriends about 50% of weekends; its cold and wet atm so they have mostly been inside playing online together this weekend. He will probably come out when I take ds3 (age 5) on a scooter ride later. I don't hassle the DC to fill their weekends with meaningful activities as it drives me mad when people do it to me: the work week is hard, I do not need to spend my weekends making memories and achieving goals. Getting the laundry done and having some cuddles is more my thing.

ineedaholidaynow · 12/01/2020 14:27

What do you do at the weekend?

We have a dog and live in walking country so will go for a walk both days.

Aswellaslocal · 12/01/2020 14:28

My 11yo would like to spend the weekend watching tv and playing Xbox. Although I would like to get on with my own stuff I have to make an effort to get him out the house.

We tend therefore to either go swimming or for a walk on a Saturday. Sunday morning he has rugby and we then chill on a Sunday afternoon or he plays out with friends.

He very rarely does anything in the house that doesn’t involve iPad, tv or Xbox. He has no interest in lego any more - nor do any of his friends

dreamingofsun · 12/01/2020 14:32

playing football or rugby, hanging out with friends, doing schoolwork, chilling out watching TV/playing online games.

Allyo19 · 12/01/2020 14:35

Rugby and xbox

sorryiasked · 12/01/2020 14:42

Given the choice he'd play computer games or watch crap on YouTube.
But he's been out on his bike, and done his homework.

SunshineAngel · 12/01/2020 14:42

When my stepson was 11 he would play on his playstation all weekend, or watch films.

He's now 16 and does much the same, but he also has a season ticket to a football club and will sometimes go out with his mates, so I'm much happier about him being a little more 'rounded'.

I learned quickly that, try as I might, he just didn't want to be taken here there and everywhere in his time off school - nothing's worse than putting effort into planning a day out, only for them to sulk because they just want to be at home chilling.

There are worse things than having a complete chill weekend every now and then.

NC4Now · 12/01/2020 14:45

PS4 mostly. Sometimes he’ll take a wander into town with his older brother and they’ll get McDs, look in Game and catch up with friends.

BentNeckLady · 12/01/2020 14:46

He does to the football with DH a fair bit, or does things with cadets. We’ve been out as a family activity this morning but Tbh when he’s at hone he normally watches YouTube/games/ plays with Lego all weekend. We don’t see much of him tbh!

He’ll help me in the garden if I’m doing something physical or involving fire Grin

midwest · 12/01/2020 14:49

Given the choice he'd play computer games or watch crap on YouTube.

My 11 would do this too. In reality he has a lot of homework, he has music practice, a bedroom to tidy, dog to help walk, a run to train for and we usually try and go somewhere one weekend day.
Today we are using an indoor skydiving ticket. Yesterday we did nothing.

FlashingFedora · 12/01/2020 14:53

Football Saturday and Sunday mornings (school & club). Afternoons usually more football with his pals at the local pitches, out on bike or skatepark or swimming with pals. Gaming or watching a movie if the weather's particularly bad.

lljkk · 12/01/2020 14:54

For the record, at that age I watched at least 6 hrs TV/day.

In contrast, my current 11yo, is industrious... he cleaned floors for an hour this morning (I paid him £3.50), pestered me to help him make banana bread (yummy, half gone already!) and has been doing some construction-homework. I think he's settled down to youtube videos now. Yesterday he insisted we go do parkrun, he baked cookies, he cleaned house for 2 hours & squabbled with big brother (as well as hours & hours of youtube).

CherryPavlova · 12/01/2020 15:02

A while ago now but Friday evening was swimming/lifesaving class then home for supper - often with another family.
Saturday he had orchestra in the morning and homework in the afternoon although usually we’d also do a family walk, do jobs around the house, have lunch out or visit grandmother.
Sunday was church then rugby until about 2pm. He might have friends over unless he had lots of homework to finish. Village youth club was Sunday early evening for a couple of hours (hikes, bell ringing, clay shooting, baking type activities).

Curlyshabtree · 12/01/2020 15:07

Depends. Yesterday we all went out to cinema and lunch. Today he’s been playing at at a friend’s house, tidying and doing chores. Plus he’ll have time on laptop and we’ll watch some TV later.

ShoesCoatBag · 12/01/2020 15:10

Homework, sport, Lego, baking, dog walking, boarding games tv and tech

HerRoyalFattyness · 12/01/2020 15:15

Depends on his mood.

Sometimes he bakes, or preps a meal (he loves chopping veg etc for me. No idea why) others he will build Lego or faff around with magnets and experiment kits.
Sometimes he goes out with friends and plays on his hoverboard or scooter. Or they wander off into the den they made in the woods, climb trees etc. (I've seen the den. It's actually pretty impressive!)
Others he sits and stares at screens for most of the day until I drag him off and tell him to do some homework.

hopeishere · 12/01/2020 16:42

this weekend he has done sport on Sat morning, made a pizza for lunch (first time!) watched TV and then we went out for dinner, came home and watched a movie.

today he has gone out for breakfast, watched TV, done some revision, gone to the shopes with me and is now watching tv again.

we do usually go out for a walk but not this week.

Ds1 is just 12 (year 7). He plays football on a Sunday. He goes out on his bike with friends, plays FIFA, plays football out the front, gets on all our nerves 😂. To be fair he's very good at entertaining himself without a screen, always has been. The other two...not so much 🙄

Mintjulia · 12/01/2020 18:01

Mine has a lazy Saturday morning with some MineCraft, a swimming lesson at 1 then lunch, then homework or we go to a bookshop, Or we might play chess or scrabble or go cycling on the common.

Sunday, another lazy morning, usually helps with lunch, maybe cycle or go to a friends house, then a karate class late afternoon.

Luckily ds likes books & reads a lot.
