Help .....What the hell is biting me?

ItchyItchyItchy · 11/01/2020 09:48

2 days ago after showering I felt itchy along my bottom of my back, just above my bum, along the area the top of my knockers would sit. On investigation I had several raised lumps, bites. I also had one or two up my side below my waist.
Early evening yesterday DH had a row of angrylooking bites in the same place.
This morning after showering I've found a few on my legs and ankles.
We have no pets.
Windows have been open alot despite the cold and rain thanks to husbands curry batch cooking.
Husband is not sharing our bed atm as he has had a cold and snoring is horrendous.
The corner sofa is where we have both been.
Basically over 3 days we have both had a cluster of bites.
Ds1 and dd2 have both goneback to uni this week and have reported no bites. Dd1 goes back to uni Monday and sits on a sofa thenotherside of the lounge and also hasn't had any bites.
I have white bed sheets and no evidence of anything in there. I have changed the bed since the first lots of bites I had 2 days ago incase something had g it stuck in the bed.
Its January. Nonones been to stay. None of us have been anywhere much since New Year due to illness.
Bites are tiny but itchy and obviously get bigger the more we scratch.
Any ideas? What can I do to rid whatever it is?
Excuse my shavers rash in my legs in the pics.

This won't help getting rid of them but will stop the bites.

In the summer I always get bitten so I got a repellent 'bracelet' it's a springy piece of plastic with insect repellant in it, I put it on an ankle as I tend to get bitten below the waist, it worked like a charm.

ItchyItchyItchy · 13/01/2020 02:55

I have mosquito repellent spray n my holiday first aid kit but no antisthan. I thinkni chucked it because it went out of date. I've just taken a piriton as I am covered in bit as. They itch worst when I get warm or out of the shower.

It's fleas. You need the strong spray not the crappy stuff you get in supermarkets . Vacuum and spray. Or you can smoke bomb but that kills everything spiders and all.

Bedbug bites are bigger and you really know it's bedbugs ( once got these in Indonesia). The bites are so itchy and bigger. Traces of blood where they have bitten you. Disgusting.

Moviprep · 13/01/2020 06:33

Indorex is the only thing that worked for us. I had been using drops on the cat I bought from Pets at Home or whatever it’s called. Obviously they were rubbish as we had fleas everywhere! I was the only one that was itchy with them, particularly around the ankles.
The Indorex was amazing. Zapped then straight away. I kept going for a few weeks just to be sure.
The dish thing was good to see which rooms they were in.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 13/01/2020 06:46

Order some Indorex, get 2 cans, cheaper to buy on line. Spray the entire house and they'll go, it's great stuff.

confusedandemployed · 13/01/2020 06:52

You can get Indorex spray from a vet's if you can't wait til tomorrow.

bionicnemonic · 13/01/2020 07:11

I’d use a tray not a saucer as so small. The water needs washing up liquid in it to break the surface tension or they can bounce off.
They are attracted to the heat so the water needs to be hot and ideally kept hot with an incandescent bulb from a lamp (placed so it won’t get wet obviously!) or just replace the water. This won’t trap them all. Go over everything with a steam cleaner.

Amicompletelyinsane · 13/01/2020 07:17

Indorex or stay kill work. Vacuum house, wash bedding etc, spray everywhere. All little gaps round edges of flooring etc. If it's fleas they do have to hatch out and then come into contact with the residual effevt of the spray to die so you may see some slower fleas for up to 3 months im afraid. Do you ever have any pets visiting our go to somewhere with pets? Check cars too

HappyAsASandboy · 13/01/2020 07:22

If it is fleas, it is very unlikely to be anything other than cat/dog fleas. They'll bite you, but they won't be able to live on your blood so will eventually die out. Keep the heating on and use the room so that any eggs hatch and don't go dormant - if the eggs think it's cold and there's no movement around then they wait for a warm wriggly animal to move in before hatching!

I personally wouldn't re wash everything, you won't get them all. In fact you'll probably not get many as removing bedding etc will shake them off onto the floor.

Indorex works. But cover you mouth and nose while you spray and stay out until it dries. I needed steroids to help my breathing after ignoring the warnings to cover nose and mouth.

You can also get fogging bombs which you light and they fill your room with smoke. They work well too. For a serious infestation we used indorex and foggers. We were finding dead fleas for ages afterwards.

Good luck, and remember that they will go away in time unless you have a pet of the right species to feed them. Cat fleas need a cat, dog fleas need a dog, Hunan fleas need a human. God help you if they're human fleas Wine

I’d use a tray not a saucer as so small. The water needs washing up liquid in it to break the surface tension or they can bounce off.

Or soap, or shampoo. Anything that breaks the surface tension - and you only need a drop.

Bedbugs don't jump - but can move remarkably quickly. The best way to catch them, if you see one, is with sticky tape. Then fold the tape over and down the bog with it.

ItchyItchyItchy · 13/01/2020 12:30

Brilliant. 2 bottles of onto sex arriving tomorrow.
What Do I need to do to day to prep the house for spraying?
I'm thinking move furniture away from walls so i can spray edge of carpets and skirting boards and vacuuming.
I have built in wardrobes. Do i need to spray inside those and if so what Do no to with the clothes in there? Also t
he airing cupboard is loaded with towels and bedding?
I assume I shouldn't be spraying "things" with this Indorex? So I need to move stacks of books, albums and she's piled in DS bedroom out of the corner first before spraying??

Onto sex Grin

Sparrowlegs248 · 13/01/2020 12:40

Hoover everything, carpets to raise the pile. Spray everywhere with into sex, but do t Hoover again for a few days at least. I repeated this weekly for 3 weeks, it did the job. I had a cat that despite regular
treatment just used to bring the buggers in.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/01/2020 09:25

I just use Indorex on carpets and, leave it without hoovering for about 3 days then hoover and have a another spray.

You still might see fleas but remember after the Indorex they will be on their way out and unable to reproduce .

I had the biggest infestation ever last year despite the cat being treated by the vet and Indorex worked a treat .

You don't spray bedding or clothes with it.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/01/2020 09:30

Oh and after hoovering spray Indorex into the hoover bag to kill the ones off you've hoovered up. Personally, I bin the bag after every use when there are fleas around!

ItchyItchyItchy · 14/01/2020 12:01

Brilliant thanks so so much all.of you for sharing your tips and experiences. I'm really upset about it. I have more bites.
My Indorex kit has arrived and I'm ready to go but not until tonight as off out for the day right now.
This st.uff sounds horrendously toxic.

Am I ok to spray my mattress with it? I can't wash the mattress ever so once it's sprayed this stuff is on there for ever!

Also people have said they have sprayed their sofa - do you mean with the cushions off so down the books and crannies? Surely not the cushions you sit on? (Mines a fabric sofa).

The main bedroom and living room are.our main rooms we seem to be getting bites.

Indorex bottle says to ventilated well after use. Do i open the window before use, straight after it wait a while?

I'm obviously not sleeping in my bedroom tonight because it will be this evening before I get to spray but do you thinknits will be safe tomorrow night?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/01/2020 14:20

You do not sorry mattresses with our or bedding

Spray the floor only, into corners and cracks.

It's not horrendously toxic, it's like Hedrin for nits, sort of coats them and then they suffocate/ die off.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/01/2020 14:20

spray

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/01/2020 14:21

I'll try again

You do not need to spray mattresses or bedding

ItchyItchyItchy · 14/01/2020 22:51

I've done the entire bedroom carpet. I pulled out bed and furniture so got to places that are usually undisturbed too. I took the mattress off the bed and wiped down the wooden bed frame with lots of books and crannies with disinfectant. I didn't spray the bed frame... Do you thinkni should?
The only patches of carpet I didn't spray were where the chest of drawers was moved to. So I might move it and spray there tomorrow so let me know if you think I need to spray the wooden bed frame. I sprayed between the bed slats to get at the carpet beneath.

U Think I might have used more Indorex than I should have. Half a can of the stuff on a 12 x 11 ft bedroom.
Left a little window open a little behind the blind. But will properly ventilated tomorrow.
Am busy tomorrow and Thursday but might get a chance to spray the lounge before I go out. Shall I spray my fabric sofa?? I need to wash the cushions anyway but thinking I could spray it and leave it for 24 hours but by Thursday night I'll want to use my sofa!!

OP posts:
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/01/2020 23:07

No don't spray the bed. You just spray the carpet and it sounds like you are using way too much!
You don't need to wipe anything down.

I have never done my sofa personally. Just the floors.

Hoover the whole house in one go. Take spray and walk through the rooms spraying downward while walking ,don't saturate the floors. Shut doors and windows behind you. Takes an hour maximum unless you live in a mansion.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/01/2020 23:11

You don't leave windows open for 20 mins iirc. It says on the instructions on the can.
