No loos at football

I have to take my son to a match a 30 minute drive away. When we get there the club has no facilities. I now don't want to drink my morning coffee in case I need a wee later. Anyone else suffer this for their kids? Or have recommendations for me? (E.g. a shewee is not an acceptable recommendation to me. Lol)

What are the kids expected to do if they need to go?
Is there a nearby cafe you could wait ib for a while, or petrol station?

BrokenWing · 11/01/2020 10:48

I did the football thing for years, ours does have a loo, it's in a tiny cupboard, unisex, grim, no hot water, little privacy with a thin sliding door. Used it once, had to share with a big spider 🕷 in close quarters. Never again would rather hold it in, a challenge in cold weather!. Is there nowhere local you can pop to for a pee? (Costa, kfc etc)

BrokenWing · 11/01/2020 10:50

Our kids go in the bushes for a pee, we have lots of them!! Luckily ds never needed it for anything else (in 7 years!!)

I send DH if there's no facilities 😂

Mumdiva99 · 11/01/2020 19:44

The boys use the bush when no loos....I'm not doing that. Lol.

I did 12 years of football with my son. Hardly any of the pitches have loos. The older they get, the worse it is as the matches get longer 🙄

I used to drop my DS at rugby training then go to a supermarket and do a shop and a wee!

thelongdarkteatimeofthesoul · 11/01/2020 20:07

Our kids football clubs all have pretty good facilities - our village team is from the smallest place locally able to host a team (village just big enough to support a shop, a tiny bistro, a church and a one form entry primary school) and is the only one without catering facilities (we do have a tiny room with a serving hatch, a food preparation surface, plug sockets, and some cupboards and drawers and a fridge in it) The fridge is always full of beer and carbonated water. All the bigger villages and small towns have separate toilets for male and female spectators as well as toilets off the changing rooms for the players (ours has this too) plus a clubhouse which serves tea, coffee, soft drinks, beer and a few simple items of hot food, plus ice-cream in summer.

I think you should all emigrate over here by the sound of it.

wineoclockthanks · 11/01/2020 20:13

That's why DH takes to the football (and I take to cricket - Which is a lot more sophisticated) and warmer Grin

yikesanotherbooboo · 11/01/2020 20:25

I had years of this ! If I needed to pee ( or little DC needed a poo )we would drive or walk to the nearest facilities leaving DS at his club.

Mumdiva99 · 11/01/2020 23:58

@violetcharlotte Oh no....it gets worse!!
@thelongdarkteatimeofthesoul what country are you in?

My DD plays and luckily for us a condition of girls football is that there has to be a toilet. The downside is now they are older they are normally in the changing rooms which are locked when the match is on. Our home ground is great as we have a clubhouse with food, drinks and toilets but have been to fields with sheds before now.

I always understood it to be boys didn't need toilets as they can go in a bush but they don't think about the mum's that take them.

tapdancingmum · 12/01/2020 00:07

Always find out where you are going and look for petrol stations or supermarkets where you can use the facilities. Don't forget if it's a 2 o'clock kick off on a Sunday most supermarkets will be shut by final whistle time and won't let you in for a wee!!!

thelongdarkteatimeofthesoul · 12/01/2020 06:13

Mumdiva99 Germany. There are lots of girls team too (about 1:3 girls to boys), maybe that's one reason it's more civilized, but there's a tradition of proper sports clubs with permanent brick buildings housing at least changing rooms and toilets on a sports field with a couple of tennis courts and a curling lane in any village big enough.

Mumdiva99 · 12/01/2020 07:33

@thelongdarkteatimeofthesoul that's really interesting to hear about the girls teams.

My cousin's live in Germany and often tell us about the benefits. 😀

I was ok yesterday.band was pleased to have the actual same conversation with one of the dad's! (First time a man has admitted being uncomfortable there was no loo.)

It sound like petrol stations and supermarkets are the way forward.....that doesn't work in small villages though. I guess most have a local pub.

Mumdiva99 ah well, there are also downsides to offset the upside of adequate toilet provision at community sports venues Grin

Mumdiva99 · 14/01/2020 07:29

....if only I wasn't driving!
