What kind of house do you live in?

I love thinking about how different we all are and was wondering what your home are like.
I’ll start... I’m in a regional town on the coast in NSW. My house is two storey, 4 bedroom lounge, dining, kitchen all beds upstairs.
Built about 30 years ago so cosmetically dated but extremely comfortable. We rent because we missed the housing boom.

two bedroom 1930s semi detached suburban outskirts of Halifax downstairs front lounge room with kitchen at the back, upstairs two double bedrooms and small bathroom, small long back garden with a garage at the side , small front garden, all the houses in our street are same basic design as the whole street was built by the same builder, when farm land was designated for building houses

I would be so annoyed house hunting, then seeing a say 3 bed house being half the size I expected Grin.

We live in a compound in Bahrain! Very lucky as it has a huge park and lots of greenery opposite the house, very rare for the desert!

The house is pretty big, rented and paid for by DH company. We've been expats for years and years and this is the first place I can put my hand on my heart and call home. 6 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms and pool.

Flat within a converted Victorian townhouse in Glasgow. There aren't many houses in this area, mainly tenements and conversions.

We actually had the opposite happen with this house. The estate agent must have had a dodgy tape measure when they measured up because the rooms were all bigger than on the sales details.

theoriginalmadambee · 11/01/2020 12:55

the developer has removed all the doors and used special small furniture to make the rooms appear bigger.

1950s semi detached 3 bed council house with a sea view on the west coast of Scotland. It’s a converted bungalow style so all that’s upstairs is 2 bedrooms and huge cupboards. Totally lucked out.

keepingbees · 11/01/2020 13:11

Early 00's 'new build' on an estate.
Detached 3 bed with garage.
Our road is lovely and quiet, and for a modern road the houses are all nicely spaced out with front gardens and driveways.
Its the first house we bought after years renting and we only afforded it because it needed lots of work. The rooms are small and we could do with a bigger house but it was the best we could afford and I do love it.

4 bed townhouse

2 bed flat with 2 bathrooms in nice area of Bristol

rumandbiscuits · 11/01/2020 13:27

I live in a small 3 bed detached house that was built in 2005. All bedrooms are very small but we do have an en suite off master bedroom. Kitchen and then dining room (also very small) and large living room and large garden. I love my house but I am finding trying to find storage tricky. Hopefully we will be able to afford to move to a slightly bigger home in the next 5 years or so.

@Passportpacked your cottage sounds gorgeous, would love to live somewhere like that!

JigsawsAreInPieces · 11/01/2020 13:37

5 bedrooms, 2 with ensuites, family bathroom and downstairs loo, 3 reception rooms, huge kitchen and dining room, entrance hall bigger than my first studio flat! double garage and 2 acres of land with a lake.

I luffs my house! Grin

4 bedroom 3 bath Charleston single style home, about 2500 square ft. We are about to put it on the market and downsize to a 1400 sq ft apartment now the children have flown the nest

Aquestionforyouall · 11/01/2020 13:41

An absolute shit hole of a two bed ex council end terrace.

Needs loads doing to it and we can’t have anyone over at the moment. I hate it.

Sausagewrole · 11/01/2020 13:54

Pretty standard 2 bed 1930s semi. Ex council house. We have extended the kitchen, but it’s still quite small.
Annoying feature is the kitchen leads off the lounge, so whilst the lounge is a decent enough size, furniture placement is limited due to need to use it as a corridor. If we ever move a separate lounge is top of the list!
But we have enough space, a large garden considering we are in London and excellent transport links nearby.

GlamGiraffe · 11/01/2020 13:59

@madambee
In more central areas of london property is always priced by agents per square ft. But room configurations are always listed as people want to know how many bedrooms etc are included.
On house details you will see a house as giving x number of bedrooms listed but you will see on a plan that some are spaces in the basement which were once a storage space or similar and have now been relabelled. In using square footage to buy at least you know how much space you are getting even though if might not be particularly usable.
In central london where things are crammed in, it's easy to compare on a like for like basis so using size is a reasonable way. You might add a premium for a super luxury build but its generally pretty average.

I dont have a carpet under any of my tables - we keep shoes or slippers on!😁

Seventeenth century mill house with later additions in the middle of the Dorset countryside. Half a mile from nearest neighbour but farm shop and good pub in walking distance. 5 acres of meadow/scrubland with millpond and stream. Four beds, living room, dining, kitchen, study, utility and bootroom. Quite damp and dark, wonky floors, dusty, hard to heat, no hallway so all the rooms run onto each other. Lots of wildlife in the garden, possibly a bit haunted. Sometimes I hate it but mostly love it.

Broken2020 · 11/01/2020 14:17

@user1483387154 Thanks

Do you mind me asking - why do you have to wait until next Christmas?

Broken2020 · 11/01/2020 14:19

@DelightfulBox We could well be in the same town. Duchy Rd? Fulwith Mill?

Broken2020 · 11/01/2020 14:22

New build semi in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. Been here a month and love it. Although the constant reversing beeps of JCBs etc has taken some getting used to Grin

Broken2020 · 11/01/2020 14:22

That's a stock image btw, not my actual house

georgialondon · 11/01/2020 14:33

I'm in a central London (Westminster) 2 bed apartment. We love it. I love being able to walk to work too.

sue51 · 11/01/2020 14:42

15th century hall house with 18th and 20th century extensions large grounds, orchard and stable. It’s Far too big for us now but DH will only leave when he’s carried out in a box.

MaryBear · 11/01/2020 14:42

New build (2016) town house in a semi rural village in Yorkshire. Its social housing and I'm extremely lucky to have it. 3 bedrooms, decent size kitchen/diner, utility room with downstairs toilet and garage. A small garden to the rear with a drive to the front.
