Neil Peart, Rush drummer, has died of brain cancer age 67.

I feel so sad, and it seems so unfair Sad.

“Suddenly, you were gone from all the lives you left your mark upon”

Oh no, how sad. My ds who is 19 plays drums and has played a lot of Rush music and really admired Neil Peart. He will be sad I'm sure.

KitMarlowesCodpieceOfThigh · 10/01/2020 22:10

Sad Gutted. I spent so many hours listening to Rush as a student. Hope he rests well.

ALongHardWinter · 10/01/2020 22:38

That was my very favourite Rush song,OP.

Turquoise4 · 10/01/2020 22:39

Poor guy. So talented in his lyrics too. Have seen Rush live and his drumming was just sublime. So sad to hear this.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 10/01/2020 22:40

I don’t think I’ve been so upset by a celebrity passing since Freddie, and I’ve only known for an hour.

Bloody hell. He deserved more time. His young daughter should have had her daddy for longer. My boys should have been able to keep on rocking for just a few more years.

Don’t mind me, I’ve had wine....

Dougie Vipond of Deacon Blue has posted a heartfelt tribute on Twitter.

OhMsBeliever · 10/01/2020 23:48

Oh no, that's so sad. Sad My ex introduced me to Rush and my 17 year old is a fan too.

ViciousJackdaw · 11/01/2020 00:02

Reunited with Selena. RIP Prof.

ThisIsSharonVanEtten · 11/01/2020 00:12

They were the first band I found by myself, and not because someone who I thought was cool liked them. I am profoundly sad.

I will never forget though my O Grade English teacher saying that all modern bands were rubbish and wrote idiotic, shallow lyrics. She (brilliantly I think) challenged us to prove her wrong and admitted that Rush lyrics were exceptional and beautiful. 😢

thesunhasgothishatontoday · 11/01/2020 00:18

Spirit of Radio will forever be tHE best song. So sad 😢 x

DotBall · 11/01/2020 00:31

Such a talent.
I was introduced to Rush at 17 by my then boyfriend. The town library had copies of all their albums on cassette tape which you could borrow (and copy illegally 👀) for free. Enlightened!

Been awake since 4 (as is normal these days) reading fan tributes.

I “discovered“ Rush in about 1982, when all my female friends were listening to Duran Duran, thanks to a guy at our youth club that brought in 2112 and Moving Pictures.

I wrote

“Quick to judge, quick to anger, slow to understand: ignorance and prejudice and fear walk hand in hand”

on the cover of my school jotter, and I think those words of his have hugely influenced my life.

Yup, very sad. Have been a fan for a very long time (I’m ancient) and was lucky to meet them all, great guys. Their music helped me through some tough teenage years. RIP Professor.

Feelingfestivenow · 11/01/2020 09:23

I too am a huge Rush fan and this is such sad sad news, and at a young age, RIP Neil.

Like the PP I have seen them many times and met the band a couple of times, they are part of my growing up, part of mine and DH life together.

Over the Christmas holidays we had quite a lot of the old stuff playing and watching videos, an incredible musician lost.

SaskiaRembrandt · 11/01/2020 09:27

That is sad news, he was an amazing drummer.

I love their Vapor Trails album, it's still a regular listen.

FairfaxAikman · 11/01/2020 11:00

Rush were both my second and third gigs. Only the Professor could do a 20 minute drum solo and not bore the audience to death.

I think he'll be up there having a wee chuckle as bands up and down the country try to find an easy Rush song to learn for their gigs tonight.

There isn't one 😁

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 11/01/2020 16:52

I saw them 7 times. You’re right about the drum solos - they were strangely moving, and never too long. And sometimes, just sometimes, there was a smile. Sad

Just been blasting 2112, god knows what the neighbours think!

Anyone here in '82 who went to see the Rush laser show to Signals in London?

GertrudeCB · 11/01/2020 17:34

Very sad news Sad

MulticolourMophead · 11/01/2020 18:12

Sad Sad I've always found Rush lyrics to be moving, they were never just simple.

HaudMaDug · 11/01/2020 18:38

Was just listening to Rush on my old iPod a couple of days ago.
Loved that Neil was such a character not just a drummer. Remember watching a live video and spotting a Rotisserie chicken turning around beside the drum kit.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 11/01/2020 18:40

Feeling No sadly, I didn’t get to see them until R30 - couldn’t afford it.

Everything is playing in my head, but can’t quite bring myself to actually listen. So many songs are about the human condition in one way or another, so I think it may feel a bit too much like staring into the abyss!

I probably need to get a grip.

Ha, yes the chickens. And the Maytag washing machines.
