Possibly becoming a nanny - also posted in childcare

Have posted in childcare but I'm supposed to be calling this lady in 10-20 minutes so need help quickly!
Currently messaging a lady about a possible nanny job to care for two children. I've asked her if she'd consider allowing me to bring my daughter along two out of five days citing childcare issues (partly true, I also don't particularly want to be away from my daughter ten hours a day five days a week caring for other children whilst she's still so small).
I've researched the average wage for my area which is £17,803pa. Not quite sure of what that averages out to per hour, but I've offered to take a lower wage to accommodate bringing my daughter along twice a week. Judging by the average wage in my area what would you offer?
I have 3 years experience, level 2 qualified in childcare, valid first aid training until next year, and I've just been dbs checked which came back clear.

That wage seems really really low

HollyBollyBooBoo · 10/01/2020 20:26

Do you get paid holiday for that?

Let's assume you get 4 weeks paid holiday and do 50 hour weeks that's £7.40 an hour. Not a lot really.

It's 30% lower than the rest of the country for nanny jobs - they don't pop up often so maybe that's why it's lower?

What is minimum wage now? Average nanny rate in my area is £10-12

namechangingtime · 10/01/2020 20:27

£7.40 is £1.25 more than my age groups minimum wage so seems like a lot to me 😂

Would £8 an hour be a fair compromise to accommodate bringing my child?

I agree the wage sounds a bit low but I nannyed when mine were young and loved it. Ideal if you don't have to take her every day.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 10/01/2020 21:25

How did the call go?

namechangingtime · 10/01/2020 21:57

The call went brilliantly - she's a little dubious about my age and I need to learn to drive before her eldest starts school but she's meeting me Monday to discuss things further!! We could end up being much much better off even with loads of nursery fees!!
