Just that really. Dh and I watched it last night and found some convincing arguments. We're considering giving it a go but with 2 dc I don't want to make them vegan too. Just wondered about other people's experiences.

Should mention dh is very much in to running, particularly ultra marathons so for him it's quite performance based.

No but I want to watch it and will soon. My husband and I were both vegan years ago but lapsed (still don’t eat meat but eat dairy now and again) and I still get the guilt now, but I feel so unhealthy and I’ll be watching it soon. I know plant based is the way to go!

I watched the one the british MMA fighter did, and it was very much thought provoking.

I'm not in a place I can go Vegan, but I did have a serious think about reducing my meat/dairy intake.

Fiona Oakes hasn’t had any problems with her running performance.

Two healthy vegan from birth children here. Why not gradually introduce them to some different foods and, depending on their ages, let them decide?

muddypuddled · 09/01/2020 16:19

I think we might start by taking meat out of our diets first and easing into it. Not sure if that's the best way or to just go cold turkey. I think I'd miss cheese too much! Is going veggie better than nothing? I'm not an amazing cook either and ten to stick to what I can do so there's going to have to be a lot of changes in the kitchen!

@Trenzalor in the programme they features all vegan athletes who all said their performance improved so dh is hoping it would work for him. Dc are 7 and 4. Like everything I'd like them to decide for themselves. Ds is very much a plant eater where as dd prefers meat.

Cheese is addictive. Google CasioMorphines (so?). I didn’t stop craving it for a year, but didn’t want to actually eat it after everything I’d read. After a year or so vegan cheeses begin to taste good!

Just bear in mind Gamechangers has a commercial interest in this - it’s not completely conflict free.

Also for anyone considering children having a vegan diet, I’d strongly recommend reading Bee Wilson’s First Bite first. I personally don’t agree with vegan for children as it removes choice later on but that is my personal view. For those that don’t know, if you don’t try certain foods early on, you are unlikely to be able to manage to eat them later on. So children who for medical reasons aren’t brought up on proper food - when they are finally allowed it, they simply can’t handle it.
My personal view is I believe all children should be given access to all foods similar to the Finish curriculum. Adults - happy to them to do what they want.

muddypuddled · 09/01/2020 16:54

@Bookishandblondish what is the commercial interest please?

According to the Wikipedia page:

"all the experts and medical professionals partaking in the documentary were also sellers of vegan products (also including the film's executive producer, James Cameron, an outspoken vegan who founded plant protein company Verdient Foods)"

Mookie81 · 09/01/2020 17:23

Be aware that the show has an agenda so not completely factual.
But we have cut down on meals with meat and have at least half our dinners veggie or vegan now. Also use oat milk to cut down on dairy.

Bookishandblondish · 09/01/2020 19:31

Commercial interest - Lemonjumper has it - they all sell vegan products so have a very commercial incentive for people to turn vegan.

slipperywhensparticus · 09/01/2020 19:33

I wouldn't make kids 100%vegan personally I would let them eat meat at school and friends etc till they are old enough to make there own choices
