How would you spend a luxury weekend with your spouse?

Looking for ideas. Think slightly warmer weather, UK based.

What would you splash out on? Where would you go? How far would travel? How would you spend the time?

I really would like to get lots of ideas, as I keep circling the same things over and over.

Oh, meant to say that it's a rare, one off type of weekend.

I love the four seasons in Hampshire and the Pig in the new forest

For both, lots of outdoor walks and bike hires

Otherwise, air b&b in mousehole in Cornwall

If you want sunshine, I’d go to Rome or Valencia. Both awesome cities

Asleep at home. Not cooking or driving. Bliss.

DickDewy · 08/01/2020 21:42

A treehouse hideaway suite at Chewton Glen - it's just gorgeous.

Shmithecat2 · 08/01/2020 21:44

Depends on your budget, but I can highly recommend Paul Ainsworth's set up in Padstow - stay at The Townhouse, eat at No.6 or the Mariners, or both! Its proper luxury, beautiful service and attention to detail at all the establishments.

If I had the money to spend I would go to the Austrian lakes! Hallstatt is a place that's close to my heart so I'd probably go there, but would love to go to Vienna too.

I've done plenty of google searches and looking at TripAdvisor, and these all look just lovely.

How would you all spend the time?

Watergate Bay hotel

DonPablo · 09/01/2020 09:14

Weirdly, we're watching suits and I want to try mudding. Having googled it, the Pig in the new forest looks amazing. I said to dh, you can take me there. It's 400 quid a night though and doesn't include breakfast! But you can use their helipad to arrive in style. Bit too posh for me, but if I won the lottery, I'd be there in a flash!

puds11 · 09/01/2020 09:16

@Don classic Lewis Wink

I’d eat a huge breakfast, gym, spa, walk in local area, maybe theatre or similar, drinks, lie in next day.

PollyPocketLucyLocket · 09/01/2020 10:11

What is mudding? Grin

I also feel about Blush about the prices here. My fault, I did say all out luxury. I think these are far beyond what I could justify though. Maybe one day...

Three chimneys restaurant in Skye. Food and setting is wonderful. There are only 6 rooms and they really spoil you but in an informal way. And you can explore the quirang, the Fairie pools , see the Cuillins etc etc .

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 09/01/2020 10:34

I'd go anywhere with sea and walks. Have you tried looking at Airbnb for accommodation other than the usual flats/cottages? We stayed in a shepherd's hut in Hampshire last year, which was magic and not expensive.

bsc · 09/01/2020 10:42

The National Trust site has holiday places- many of them are £££ for a week but for a night or two.... some of them are just so gorgeous, many in uniquely beautiful surroundings too.

bsc · 09/01/2020 10:43

But as someone said upthread, my idea of a luxury weekend now is one where I have a lie-in and don't have to go anywhere!

eachbeach · 09/01/2020 14:52

Ooooo, good reminder of Three Chimneys that's been on my fantasy list for a while.

Mine are to go star gazing on the Isles of Scily or the Lime Wood Hotel

Mother87 · 09/01/2020 15:22

An amzing B&B in on King Henry's Rd - Primrose Hill - around £130 per night (on alistair sawdays special places to stay) Around the corner from lovely cafes... I'd have a massage at Cowshed Spa or a session @ FaceGym... then I'd walk to Camden or see a show... afternoon tea on BB Bakeries routemaster type bus...

ShirleyPhallus · 09/01/2020 16:06

@DonPablo even if you don’t stay there, it’s well worth a visit just to go for lunch and a walk around the grounds

Amazing food, lovely surroundings. Highly recommend if you’re in that neck of the woods

I would stay in one of the National Trust lighthouse properties, and spend the day strolling about the countryside, with a pub lunch, then an afternoon relaxing and reading, then make a delicious dinner with food and wine picked up from a local farm shop/winery. Or if you more fancied a city break then probably Edinburgh - spend the day pottering around the city then dinner at The Witchery. The next day maybe a trip out to Portobello for fish and chips by the sea :)
