Nappy rash, help!

My 4 week old is a very windy baby, every time she passes wind she poos a little, infracol has helped a little, but she has dreadful nappy rash. We've tried the following:
Various brands of disposables
Reusables with bamboo/ fleece inserts
Metanium
Metanium and a barrier cream
Sudocream
Conotrane
Lots of nappy free time
Daily bath
Bath with oatmeal
She's winded after every feed (breast fed) with success about 50% of the time. There's no white spots that would suggest thrush.
It's still getting slowly worse. Help please!

Try a pink cream called drapolene. Swore by it. Available is most independent pharmacies

Also lightly wiped egg white with nappy free time. Lay her on a towel over the change mat

Do the poos have mucus in them? Any reflux?

Roomarmoset · 08/01/2020 18:22

Have you tried bepanthen? My DD cried when I tried sudocrem but bepanthen has always worked wonders so we always use that now if she ever gets a rash.

Not sure if it’s available in the uk but cavalon spray was suggested to me by a nurse who works in wound care when my dd has extreme nappy rash caused by e.coli. She had open sores that weren’t healing, used to use cavalon spray on her bum after bath, going to bed, then throughout the day would use metanium after every napping change, plenty of nappy free time and only water wipes when out and water and cotton wool at home and made sure her bum was very dry after each change. Sores started to clear up after a few days and bum was completely healed after 2 weeks.

You're bringing back a lot of memories of when I was in a similar situation when my dd2 (now 3) was a tiny baby. She had the worst nappy rash I'd ever seen and it was causing her a great deal of pain. I trawled around all the pharmacies & was getting emotional that I couldn't help her. I ended up in Holland & Barrett (out of desperation) & the lovely sales lady advised me to use coconut oil (although I thought it was crazy I'd try anything as I'd exhausted everything else). I used the solid one in a glass jar from Aldi (for cooking) and immediately she stopped crying & it ckeared up quickly within a few days. Good luck I know how awful it is Sad

My 4 month old was EXACTLY the same. I kept getting fobbed off by HV and GP when I told them she leaked poo all day long. Posted a similar thread to yours, someone suggested CMPA and that’s exactly what it was. Can you try cutting out dairy to see if things improve? Google “Dilan and Me” for a great website with lots more information.

Once I stopped eating dairy I would say my baby’s symptoms improved within 7-10days and were completely gone by about 4 weeks. Also speak to a GP as they should support you.

Just been through this with my newborn. Identical situation and similar attempts to heal it. In the end the only this that worked was a prescription for an anti-fungal cream from the doctor. Cleared it up in a couple of days.

YenniferOfVengeberg · 08/01/2020 18:28

We use cheeky wipes (very soft as new) and water for wiping.

I tried every nappy cream I could get my hands on for my eldest and the only one that worked for him was the Johnsons Nappy Cream.

ToTheRegimentIWishIWasThere · 08/01/2020 23:24

Dry her bum every time after baby wipes and then put weleda calendula nappy cream on (you can get it from Amazon ( it's amazing. It works on Burns and bites and everything)

I tried every metaniun, sudocrem and drapolene prior to being recommended this. I buy it for every new family/friend baby.

I ask because of cows milk protein allergy. As you’re breastfeeding you could cut out dairy for a week or two see if the reflux and nappy rash reduces, but my babies also had mucus poo and one had eczema.

Eeeeek2 · 09/01/2020 07:51

Both of mine gained weight well despite the cmpa
