feeding teenage boys

My DS's school have a late lunch (half one) so when they come home they a bit hungry but not much, they often help themselves to a snack - usually a bowl of cereal or some biscuits (they have a pack of biscuits each of their choice bought once a week and when they are gone they are gone).

They don't tend to want dinner until late because they have had lunch so lunch.

Both are growing like weeds, one is over 6 foot and the other is only about an inch behind.

What do you feed your boys? Some days they will eat very little and other days they can empty the fridge.

My ds is only 12 and eats like a horse. We can't keep up with it. As soon as he is home from school he starts on the fridge. He likes cheese and will eat with crackers. Crisps. Biscuits. Anything easy to grab. He has his tea early around 5pm and continues eating all evening. He is not fat 5 feet 6 and 9 stone

DS is 13 and 6'1". He never stops eating and is skinny as a rake.

Their school lunch is late too but they also have a break about 11.30 and he tends to eat his lunch then and have a snack at lunch break.

When he gets home he'll often have crisps, or biscuits, breadsticks and cheese and then we usually eat again about 6.30 (some days he has to have tea eariler as he's at clubs and will have something like cheese on toast and then some pasta when he gets home later).

It's like painting the forth bridge keeping up with him. He has a drawer in the freezer with things like nuggets and fishfingers in it that he's allowed to cook when he wants (providing we're not about to have a meal together).

If they aren't particularly hungry when they get in from school and just want a small snack, that's fine. I presume you cook dinner for later and I bet they tuck into that, mine always did; he'd have a sandwich and maybe yogurt or fruit on return from school and thoroughly enjoyed dinner with us at 7-ish. They do tend to eat big meals at that age.

Always have plenty of cheese in the fridge and a fruit bowl (if they like fruit and cheese).

Yes, and sometimes go back for seconds. I batch cook two lots at once and sometimes they'll polish off half of that. Fruit and cheese is always available, they go through that and bread quite quickly, also milk - I buy about 6-8 large bottles a week.

They are both skinny as rakes, they've both shot up over 5 inches this last year (they are 15 and 16).
