Is MN screaming just...well.....shouting?

katzenellenbogen · 07/01/2020 17:17

I have always understood "screaming" to mean something along the lines of Janet Leigh in the shower in Psycho or Violet Elizabeth Bott.

I have been on MN for a couple of years now and will admit to being shocked by the number of people (often, but not exclusively, MILs) who resort to screaming when they don't get their own way.

It now occurs to me that posters are more likely to just mean "shouting" which puts things in a whole different light. Is it just me?

Everything on here is at an insane level of emotion (I even exaggerated there Grin)

Someone says hello to you in the street = harrassment.
Someone puts their hand out to say hello to your baby =assault - call 999
Someone asks to visit = freeloading leech (I have seen this one recently).
Any request = asker is a CF
Mildly irritated = fuming
momentarily upset = crying all day

no one ever speaks sensibly and calmly; everyone confronts/calls someone out/ tears someone a new one.

Can only conclude that people who post on here love massive drama in their lives and want to spend all day talking and getting worked up about total non events. Egged on by equally mad and dramatic people ('GO NO CONTACT.' 'I'D TELL HER TO FUUUUUUUCK OFF' 'IF SOMEONE SAID THAT TO ME I'D PUNCH THEM')

Off course if you don;t ressolve every disagreement with threats of violence, crazy swearing, tears and uncontrollable anger you are a doormat ('GROW A PAIR FFS')

I'm finding the whole place increasingly loud and tiring.

katzenellenbogen · 08/01/2020 18:36

Don't forget also that if you ever arrange to do something with a small group of people they must be allowed to bring along any other people that they want. Otherwise it's mean and they will feel excluded.

Anyone who does something mildly annoying or slightly inconsiderate is a cxxx or a bitch.

Nobody talks to anyone else, they always text or message. When you need to explain something complicated to a friend or relative, you don't arrange to meet them. You send a massively long text as suggested by someone on the thread. If it's that important, pick up the phone, fgs.

LaMarschallin · 08/01/2020 20:36

The fact that you can swear here means it's obligatory to swear , especially if telling someone what you'd do in the circumstances they are describing.
Eg MiL gave DS a glass of milk before lunch which spoiled his appetite.

"I'd have told the fucking cunt to fuck off and then fuck off some more, bloody interfering cow! And I wouldn't give a shiny shit if she didn't like it! Go NC! AngryAngryAngry"

(multiple emojis are so much more meaningful and it's always worth breaking up family relationships if people don't realise it's YOUR kids, YOUR rules!)

TrickyD · 08/01/2020 21:02

Narcissist = A little selfish not like me of course
Toxic = I just don’t like them

managedmis · 08/01/2020 21:05

There's always cries of 'tell them to fuck off' then 3 seconds later multiple threads of 'how can I possibly ask the lovely lady next door to stop sleeping with my husband? I'm scared of offending her?

katzenellenbogen · 09/01/2020 09:34

At the risk of derailing my own thread, it is also peculiar how the exact same situations get trotted out again and again and again.

It is fair enough that a new poster may not be aware that there are many, many threads about (e.g.) "MIL wants to be at the birth", but it cannot be the case that everyone asking this is a new poster....in which case, the advice is likey to be the same as it was the previous 72 times that people asked.

'remarks'.

When was the last time you made a remark? Most of us just talk.

CommunistLegoBloc · 09/01/2020 09:43

I'm always sceptical of people who spit their tea over the keyboard at threads that raise a mild smile at absolute best.

Chuffit · 09/01/2020 10:40

Manchild. Any man who dares to have an off day.
Enabling. Any woman who allows her man to have an off day is enabling him, because how dare he have an off day? That privilege belongs to her.
Patriarch. Um, well just cos he's a man really.
Mansplaining. Absolutely any attempt to explain anything at all to a woman by a man should be immediately shut down and the man run out of town.

Jux · 09/01/2020 12:14

I have been known to make a remark now and then.

Yep. I’m sceptical they’re even using keyboards. Who does unless MNing at work in which case you really shouldn’t spit on your employers property.

katzenellenbogen · 09/01/2020 12:23

Um, I am using a keyboard. It's part of my laptop. I am not at work.

Never spat tea on it though Grin

I made this point once on a thread. I forget exactly what had happened but OP said a member of staff had ‘growled in response’ or something. Growled most likely meaning something closer to grumbled/muttered...

Chuffit · 09/01/2020 12:25

Pc world must make a fortune replacing all these drink ruined keyboards.

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 09/01/2020 12:28

But you would if it was your employer replacing it, right? Grin

Btw- why do you MN on your laptop? Or were you using it for something else and just opened MN for a read while you were there?

iklboo · 09/01/2020 12:53

Anyone over the age of 40 who is unpleasant must have dementia
Anyone under 40 who is unpleasant must have autism

'My husband (39) came home from work last night and kicked all the doors off the hinges. He's never done anything like this before'

'Are you sure he doesn't have autism?'

'My mum (55) was really horrible to DS when he broke her favourite cup and shouted at him'

'She's probably got dementia'

katzenellenbogen · 09/01/2020 14:01

Btw- why do you MN on your laptop?
Because I prefer a decent sized screen.
I am one of those weird people who (mostly) uses their phone for calls, messages and photos.

But you would if it was your employer replacing it, right?
I am in the extraordinarily fortunate position not to have an employer!

Errr.. is there a reason people shouldn't use MN on their laptop? I'm sure many people do!

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 09/01/2020 14:53

Spit to your heart’s content then Grin

Errr.. is there a reason people shouldn't use MN on their laptop?

Errrr... no. Grin of course not. It’s just that with smart phones and the MN app I would have thought it more convenient for most people to be using their phone.

Dio23489432489234 · 09/01/2020 14:56

Oh right. I only use my phone for browsing if I'm out of the house (aka if I have no other option). If I'm at home I much prefer a 13" screen with real keyboard! Sure lots of others do too!

ParanoidGynodroid · 09/01/2020 15:01

On a thread yesterday, someone had a different viewpoint to me and declared that those who held my viewpoint must have "serious issues" Hmm

Biancadelrioisback · 09/01/2020 15:09

it's worse when they snap and fart

katzenellenbogen · 09/01/2020 15:15

Yay - there are more of us Grin

When we were away on holiday I occasionally had a peek at MN on my phone. It was awful. I could only ever see about 15 threads at a time. When I press "last day" on my trusty laptop I get a few hundred to browse through although this isn't necessarily a good thing

ProfYaffle · 09/01/2020 15:16

I also MN on a laptop. Prefer the big screen and as a touch typist it's much quicker having a full sized keyboard than the crappy phone keyboard and auto correct.
